Not looking for any medical advice on this, more feedback from anyone who has experienced the same.

I started running a couple of months ago and my progress is slow, but anyway. I noticed over the last few days that the day after a run I suffer from pins and needles in my calves and shins.

I play football and have never experienced this before. I'm wondering if its due to the way I sit at work (desk job) or is it likely to be related to running?

Hard to say anything on this without giving medical advise, I would say the best bet is your doctor. Has a very similar thing myself and that was my first port of call.

^ Also make sure you are not lacing your shoes too tightly

laces too tightly caught me out, my right foot went num all the time and was always at the 4 mile mar and be gone by 6:D

This is forum is priceless, people say the most stupids things like make sure your laces are not too tight and then you go home and loosen them a bit and your foot is grand:D

Guess who feels stupid then :)

I only just started running in the past few months too and the same thing happened to me only in my feet. Weird feeling.

I was using fairly thick insoles in my runners and I discovered they were the problem. I'd try loosening your laces and picking up running socks if you haven't already.

Pins and needles are a circulation issue, and can be an indicator of other more serious stuff, so I'd head to the doctor straight away anyway just in case.

I got lots of pins and needles while running when I upped my mileage last year. As my body got used to the running, however, it just stopped happening.
