I want to get rid of ubuntu. I have tried to understand how it works but have failed miserably. Cant get my ipod to work, dont understand the terminal etc etc

:confused:I have it as my sole o/s and want to change to windows 7 but the windows 7 disc I was given is a 64bit version and for some reason my laptop wont install it.. I just want to get rid of Ubuntu completely.

Can someone tell me how?:confused::confused::confused:

If its the only operating system on your laptop then you can just reformat the whole disk from the windows 7 installer. Just make sure to backup your data before you do. Ubuntu uses the ext3/4 filesystem by default, so you need to reformat anyway before you can use the space from ubuntu in windows.

Also I doubt that Ubuntu is stopping you from installing from your windows disk, just to check you said it was a x64 disk, are you sure that your laptop has a x64 chip, it won't install if it only has x86.

when i put the 64bit windows disc i burned, it says press a key to boot from dvd. i do that and it says "installing windows files", and when all the files come through it says a software change may be the cause of it not being compatible. doesnt give me an option to delete ubuntu

I have tried to download a 32bit iso but i dont have the option to boot from dvd when i insert that disc. i used nero to burn the iso but even when i go into the f10 menu, i cant seem to get it to boot. i am so confused

If your cpu is either an Intel Core2Duo or newer, or an AMD x64 or newer then its a 64bit chip and should be able to run 64 bit windows. If not then there must be a problem with the disk you burned, check how to run md5sum on files in windows and compare the hashes you get back against http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7install/thread/725dfd33-e37c-41d7-95eb-bda1585c5167. If the hash is different then the files you downloaded are corrupt and you need to get new versions. If not then you should burn them again and see if that helps.

Just FYI the part where you choose to uninstall ubuntu is the part where you choose where you want windows installed to. If you've gotten to the part where you are installing windows files then you have already removed ubuntu. Also you might want to try asking this in the windows section as it sounds a windows problem not a ubuntu one, you may get a better answer there.

. Cant get my ipod to work, dont understand the terminal etc etc

Sorry it didn't work out for you. Generally, you don't need to use the terminal to use Ubuntu. Say if you had bought a laptop with Ubuntu already installed, there would be no requirement to use the terminal.

Gtkpod would probably detect your ipod too.

As other have said though, the way to get rid of it is to nuke it with the Windows 7 installer. Windows 7 is pretty decent really, any time I've used it I've found it OK. This link might help you.
