well basically I rang the guy up mileage seems suspiciously low for a 7 year old car with 3 previous owners, apparently the service book is missing,I love the looks of the car and really hope it is genuine im just wondering if anybody has any advice on how I could verify mileage or any telltale signs if the mileage has been messed around with or what to look out for, also has anybody had any dealings with this crowd before?

I wouldnt say the mileage is suspiciously low, but the missing service book would worry me

On that type of car you cant really tell if its been clocked because its done by plugging a laptop into the cars computer and running some software to change the milage, the only thing you can do is look up the service history and even ring the crowd that serviced it to see if they have any info on the car, but without the service history thats gonna be hard,

Ring Sheehys in Naas and see if they ever serviced it.

I wouldn't assume it's legit just because a dealer is selling it.

    +1
Although you would have some sort of comeback against a dealer if you could prove that the mileage was clocked, versus a private sale.

Is mileage not recorded by NCT people?

At least you should be able to get hold of the previous NCT and check the mileage 2 years ago

Seems strange that a dealer would buy in a car if they could not verify the mileage.

Final option, phone the previous owner or, work back through the list of owners if possible.

One of my ex bosses had a company A6 and lived 3 miles from the office, often cycled or even walked to work (he found it quicker) and car spent much of its time parked on his driveway - when the car was returned at end of its lease mileage was incredibly low. He just kept the car and paid BIK as it was 'just part of his package'

Say if there is no previous cert available. Can someone, as a prospective buyer, just ring the NCT office and request info on previous NCT results? I doubt that info is freely available - however i stand to be corrected.

OP , Is that car an import?

Correcting myself here. Yes it is an import. Highest reg in Kildare in 2003 was 8963. If that car came from the UK then a service record is vital. Cars like this are saleproof in the UK without a fully stamped up service history. If the history is missing then you've gotta ask why!

Would expect the likes of Cartell to have access to this data and then sell it back to us?

There were 8963 cars registered in Kildare between Jan - Dec 2003. Wonder when it was brought in.

    EDIT***
See Ed got there before me with his sneaky editing skills. At least we are both on the same page though.

Most definitely a UK import. Get the UK reg number or chassis number & get a HPI check done based on this - that will confirm mileage when it left the UK

Missing service history and unusually low mileage = run away.

This is pure libellous, it's against the charter, and it's probably the tenth time today you've been sailing close to the wind.

    Banned for a week.
