Absolutely no idea on the salaries or what it is like now....

    But in 1985:

    Starting salary was £3,790 pa!

    And we had a blast!

Of course all the managers and partners I worked with then are long gone, so God knows what is it like now.

One thing I do remember was that Irish was sometimes needed, as there were several Irish speaking clients and an Irish speaking partner to booth. So if you are good at the old Irish it might give you an edge....

Good luck with your job search,

    Hi,

I work in Deloitte but in financial services, from what I hear the starting salary will be around the 21 mark this year but it could be same/less/more for SME as you will be doing the ACCA exams!

Deloitte is a good place to work, I enjoy it. Its like every other professional services firm, work hard and play hard. There are no lack of nights out in fairness. People are very friendly and will always sit down and explain things to you.

If you want to know anything specific drop me a PM!

As for E&Y all of the firms got NAMA work, Deloitte, KPMG, PWC and E&Y! Deloitte got the Anglo Irish Audit which is also a massive endorsement!

I have a PG contract with Deloitte (tax, Dublin) after working for them for 6 months last year as a co-op student. I had a really great experience there and got on well with everyone in the department (they recommended me to HR for contract and requested me to the department if I accepted!).

I knew nothing at all really when I started there and it was really my first proper job. Anytime they gave me anything to do, it was explained and then if I had questions while I was doing it they were great in helping me and it really is a great learning environment in my view. By the time I was there 3ish months I was being treated as a 1st year trainee, along with the workload and responsibility but it was exactly what I wanted. The week I left was spent offloading whole clients which I had managed/been responsible for for those gone on study leave for the summer and showing more experienced trainees how to complete a new type of returns as I was the only trainee working on the client with the manager.

I lived with students in E&Y and KPMG while I was up there and I thought I had the best deal. The former had some problems but I think it was more him then E&Y as other students seem to have similar experiences to me. The latter hated KPMG and worked some crazy hours and had a ridiculous workload so she decided she didn't want to go back either!

Mark1916 is about right with starting figures too! Though my tax partner quiety recommended I go into financial services side of things so maybe they do get paid more!

I'm in the same boat here, Deloitte closed applications 10 working days ago and nothing - I realise a lot of people probably applied, but I'm not sure whether it's a good or bad thing not to have heard anything.

KPMG is still open for applications so stands to reason that will take longer even if they said it's first come first served.

If anyone has gotten interviews or rejections please do say!

    Thanks,

    Ari.

    Hey there-

I am wondering does anyone have any advice for the question on the application form that asks about a business story that has left an impression on you? What would the best angle to take on this?

    Thanks:)
