Noted...but it's doubtful in the space of 7 years that they managed to sneak the remains out without anybody noticing and kicking up a mass hysteria over it!!! I wonder if any student has seen it

"The material is being held in secure conditions behind a steel door which is guarded by closed circuit television."
So... How long do you think it would be before anyone noticed a bunch of students "relieving" UCC of its uranium? :p Steel doors can't be hard to miss...

I'd say the Remains of a Nuclear Reactor aren't all you'd find in the Kane building.

Add in KGB agents, prison cells, the remains of Chechen rebels etc.

I wonder how many secret things UCC has buried beneath it.

A scavenger hunt is on the cards for all Boardsies to discover the underworld that is UCC.

    Mwahahahahaha. :D 1000 posts.

I've been in there and seen it! Room was used as a dumping ground for old computers, at that time anyway.

Jeez, they seem pretty lackadaisical about it! "Oh yeah, we just use this room for storage; there's a few computers, some old tables, and, you know, an auld nuclear reactor over there".

    :pac:

i could imagine when getting a job there, in the contract it mentioning... careful not to drop anything dangerous in the basement..might cause a nucleur explosion! maybe thats why the fire brigade always send a few trucks over when the alarm goes off

It's been a few years, so I'd imagine Stephen Fahy must have found some inventive way of disposing of the material.

I always knew there was something suspicious about those special offer, deliciously ionising Rodburgers in the Kampus Kitchen... :p

I was told about the reactor when I was in UCC. I laugh when I see the sign on the Carrockrohane Straight stating that Cork is a Nuclear free zone.

Reminds me of the scene in Sum of all Fears when one character translates the writing on the T shirt of the technician in the Russian missile facility. 'I am a nuclear bomb technician. If you see me running.....'
Forget the rest, but you get the gist ;)

I was talking to my cousin about this last night, and she actually asked John McInerney, the head of the Physics Department, about it a few months ago, and he said it's been gone for a few years.

All in all, tis a bit disappointing :(
