Returning Very Expensive Headphones - An Post Question

    Hi all,

Unfortunately, a set of headphones I purchased decided to malfunction after about four weeks of use.

I've been in contact with the company who supply them, and they're more than happy to give me a new pair, provided I send the faulty pair to the Warehouse of their European Branch which is based in Holland, where they'll check them to make sure there is actually damage done, and then send out the new pair.

However, these are extremely expensive headphones (over €300) and I'm very, very nervous about posting them over. As is the case with many packages, they might not arrive at their destination, so I'm just wondering where I stand in terms of my rights, if the worst happens and they don't arrive at the suppliers warehouse?

Can I take out some sort of Insurance with An Post when I go to send the package over? Will they be responsible if my package goes missing? Is there any precaution that I can take to ensure the package will arrive there safely?

Any replies will be much appreciated.

    Thanks :D

    Cheers for your reply.

I know someone who got registered post to send an item to France, which never arrived at it's destination, he then contacted An Post and they said there's nothing that can be done about it. They said the couldn't even find out who signed for it or even track it  So I'm not too sure if that's a good option for me.

I've just seen on the An Post website that they do a 'Priority Parcel' package to Holland for around €50. This will mean that the package gets there in 3/4 working days, Specified Delivery Standard, There's a Track & Trace option, Delivery Confirmation, Proof of Delivery are all included, it seems like a good option. The only sticking point is that it only includes Insurance up to €150, which would only cover half the cost of the actual item.

Crossed wires there, somewhere along the way. Packages gone missing are definitely covered by registered post (although it does take a while for a claim to be processed).

As above, registered post suits what you need, though if you want speed then DHL/UPS/An Post Courier might be better (and more expensive). You can declare (and pay for) a higher insurance value with registered post (above the €150 included in the case of EU registered post).

forget An Post OP €50 registered post is crazy money, DHL would be a much better and cheaper option as suggested. We sent a decent sized box to germany a while ago for €60 and I would guess it weighed considerably more than your little headphones :)

Definitely don't send by registered post, the insurance amount is very low. Best bet is a proper courier.

A Proper courier???? you mean the ones that go to the post office to find where people live and then leave your parcel in the local shop to be collected because they couldnt be arsed driving out the countryside to go to your house.

a registered package under 2kgs would cost €15, its insured up to €100. probabally your best option.

I never said it was perfect i said i thought it was his best option. as a rule reg post doesnt get lost , so he has to weigh up the extra cost of insuring the balance versus the chances of it getting lost.
