I'm having to reboot my sky HD box almost daily.

I find that I need to do this for a number of reasons:
1 - No Satellite signal being received
2 - sometimes preset recordings will not work - they just say failed in the planner screen.
3 - live pause might not work

There is no real pattern to the above.
I do share the Skybox telephone port with a cordless phon unit also - could this have an impact?

I haven't had time to report it to Sky - will do in the next day or two and will update this thread - but just wanted to see if this is an isolated incident or if others have similar problems.

Is it a new SkyHD box? make/model?

What does the signal strength/quality show for each feed if you check it?

Maybe a hardware problem? Perhaps full system reset is needed.

This appears to be all the symptoms of a power supply failing, I rebuilt mine, you can buy replacements, have a google.

As previous poster correctly stated, it sounds like a powersupply or tuner problem, common with the early hd boxes made by THOMPSON the main problem with these is that the airvents are on the bottom of the box and so the Fan are working overtime to try and keep the box cooled.

I have found that by taking them out of presses or removing any unneccessary clutter such as video tapes, dvds away from the box can sometimes help...but if the power supply has started to fail then it will need replacement..

We were having the exact same problems for ages, eventually half the channels wouldn't work any more. Phoned Sky,threatening cancellation. They sent around an engineer, he tested the signal and then said it was a faulty box, and replaced it with a new one. Interestingly, the first box he took out of the van to replace it with wouldn't work either. Seems to be a few faulty ones around. This new one working fine so far.

I believe this could be a software problem. To download software take out power cable, and before you put it back, press down the "Back up" button on your box. After 5 to 10 secs you'll get a message on screen saying this procedure will take up to 10 mins to load, you will see 4 indication lights on the front of the box light up. Keep the "Back Up" pressed. When message disappears, press "Sky" on your remote. Try it, you have nothing to lose.

I would caution against this. If you are in the middle of any kind of firmware/software upgrade and lose power you will be left with a large paperweight! Its OK if you intend to get a replacement box.

to be honest if it is that - I'll be looking for a replacement box - not going to go changing that myself.

I'll try rule out the other angles first.

air vent is underneath this model - and I have it on a wooden floor - I mighr elevate it a bit to let air circulate better underneath.

i got a replacement power supply from here

    not had a problem since.

very easy to do just a screwdriver and 1/2 hour.

or get someone else to install it for you if you dont feel happy with doing it.

or ring sky and see what they will do for you .they may even give you a new 500gb replacement.
