Do many people here use XBMC? I started off using it on the XBOX, but I have it installed on a Apple TV now. I find it really good. No problem playing any files. Thinking of getting the Broadcom Crystal HD BCM970015 when they come available and at a decent price.

XBMC has major advantages over the rest, where you don't need to be running a streaming engine on your PC. All I need to do is share out my files and the Apple TV is able to see them and play them. I have used software such as TV Rename and Media Companion for sorting out my Movies and TV Series collection. So I'm able to get up info from IMDB and thetvdb about the movies and episodes. A cool feature, is selecting an actor from the database on XBMC and it will tell you what other movies and tv episode that that actor has been in from your collection.

It's small and running quiet underneath the TV, and it's HD. I got mine second hand on ebay for €150. It's the 160GB version, but I've never stored any file on it. I don't have an ipod so I don't use any of the itunes features.

I have two older xbox's with it installed on, for two other TV's.

I'm using it on a few nvidia ion pc's (acer revo / asrock ion). Have being using being since i modded an old xbox years ago. Cant beat it in my opinion and with tv support in development it will only get better.

I have 4 dvb-s2 satellite tuners connected to it using tvheadend along with xbmc. So i can watch tv around the house on other xbmc pc's without the need the need for satellite cables. Using my sky card with it. Had it recording about 12 channels simultaneously last week including BBC HD and ITV HD.

It has nice eye candy skins aswell with more in development/mockup stage like this

A lot of the other media players tend to just copy xbmc skins.

I've been using XBMC since Christmas and I absolutely love it. Once it's fully set up and in Library mode it is truly the sexiest mediacentre software out there imho.

The next release is also going to include support for PVR functionality and I'm really looking forward to it I have to say.

I'm using xbmc on an Acer Revo 3610 (was about £200 sterling from ebuyer). I installed the live (linux based version) and am loving it. The Revo uses the nVidia Ion platform for it's graphics and XBMC supports hardware acceleration in Linux, Vista, Windows 7 but NOT in XP so 1080p hi-def plays great. It took a bit of tweaking to get it running exactly like I wanted - interesting learning experience (and lots of late nights!) as I'm a linux newbie.

Some of the things I've customized are the plot summary font sizes and scrolling speeds, added random weather backgrounds (related to the prevailing conditions) and also managed to get a cheap remote off ebay working well. Sometimes use XBMC remote app to control it - it's pretty cool as it shows movie/TV info on the iPhone itself. However it can't sleep/wake my revo.

I've taken to backing up a lot of my Blurays using makemkv and then Handbrake to compress to a more manageable size. Occasionally Handbrake mysteriously stops encoding so then I use AnyDVD to extract the movie m2ts file and then put it through Handbrake.

Anyway all in all very pleased with XBMC - streets ahead of my WDTV.

It's very nice. I love Boxee, which is based on XBMC. Have to say that I prefer Boxee, I had awful trouble with getting XBMC to see files, but maybe that was just my own experience since most people seem to have no trouble.

    Great mc though.

I've been using XBMC (was initially XBMP - XBox Media Player) since the start of the home-brew Xbox1 scene. Fantastic free application.
Have been using it on my Xbox1 Debug unit for the past, wow, 7 years and just last year decided to get a Acer Revo Nvidia Ion and use that after a short time using XBMC on an AppleTV. ATV was just too limited for me, standard remote bugged the poop out of me! :D
