...........between instructors would the size/type of their car have an influence on whether you took lesson with them or not?

i.e. would you prefer to drive a smaller car, eg. a Corsa or Fiesta as opposed to a medium sized car like a Peugeot 308 or Ford Focus?

    Poll to follow.

The poll is multiple choice so please choose TWO answers

Please feel free to state your reasons why, it would really help

Would the size of car influence who you took lessons with? 35 votes

Can't drive, but if i were walking out the door now to get into an instructors car i'd like it to be something big. My theory being that if you learn in a bigger car, then you'll have an easier time with a smaller car when you know your stuff?

I wouldn't agree with the last part there... I find a Vectra easier to drive than a micra. Honestly ... the clutches are just soo different.

I did my first lessons in a fiesta (box shape) and it wasn't tooo bad... but then my next set of lessons in naas were done in a 07 Opel Corsa and that was sooo much better.... also passed test in the corsa.

but if i had the choice of doing lessons in a fiesta or focus I'd pick the focus

Corsa or vectra I'd pick the vectra.

in answer... yes i would like a bigger car in general

I would prefer a medium size car. I do lessons in a Yaris but practice in a Focus and I find the Focus much better to drive. It has helped my perception of space a bit too when it comes to stopping, turning, parking etc. Using the smaller car caused me to act a bit risky because I knew it would fit through smaller gaps.

My preference was the smaller car. I somehow felt less nervous and just more comfortable especially when learning how to parallel park. Everyone is different though..my friend had never sat in a car before learning yet found the bigger one (Honda Accord) suited her best.
I wonder does this preference have anything to do with which car you were brought up with, family car I mean. Ours has always been a small Yaris size.

i did my lessons on a yaris but if given the choice it would be on a saloon. same reasons as KKV. i'm driving a mitsubishi lancer and find it a lot easier to drive my friend's yaris but that is only in terms of calculating and negotiating spaces.

It's funny when I look back at what I started in to what I drive now.
Started lessons in a 1l Yaris and now I drive 30 tonne lorries!
    Suppose you gotta start somewhere!:)

When I was learning to drive I went with the instructor because of his excellent reputation, not having a clue what his car was. Turned out to be a Mitsubishi Colt, which I found grand. In between lessons, drove my Dad's Daewoo Lanos ( I think that's what it was:o), which was a bit bigger, but found it ok. Driving an 01 Polo for last year and half, just love my little car! Am only little myself, so I think I'd be daunted now driving anything much bigger:D. My sister's Audi A3 is ok to drive, but brakes feel way different, and I was terrified I'd prang her baby. Only car I really hated to drive is OH's 88 Golf GTI. No power steering:(. Had to move it up a bit for coal truck recently and I'm pure crap at parking anyway, but I was turning n turning the wheel to reverse in closer to curb, and nothin happening. Coalman had to park it for me:o:o:o
