Recommend a good mid range/price laptop for me?

I'm currently using a Dell laptop, its just over 2 years old but this will be the 3rd time i've had to replace the battery so i'm going to buy a new laptop instead.
Can anyone recommend a mid price laptop for me? I'm clueless when it comes to specs but basically use mine for personal use i.e. basic word processing, youtubing, chatting with friends, surfing the net .... a good battery is important. Any links with the recommended laptop would be great

If I recall correctly PC World are doing a deal on a decent HP laptop for €499 or a Toshiba for €399.

I myself am in the market for a laptop and I'm tending to lean towards the HP one but that offer is finishing today unfortunately.
