Detectives investigating sex abuse of 14-year-old boy set up profile on gay website

DETECTIVES investigating the sexual abuse of a child by several men he met on the internet set up an elaborate 'honey trap' to catch one of the people involved.



Paul Farrell (44), of Eaton Green, Rathcoole, Co Dublin, was last week given a two-year suspended sentence for possession of child porn images on his laptop. He was the third man convicted in relation to a major probe launched when it emerged that a 14-year-old from north Dublin arranged to meet several men for sex he contacted on an international gay website in 2007.

All of who? They do report the names of people convicted of possessing child porn.

Also that news article is from 3 months ago.

Convicted of any indecent act with a child.
Doest matter how long it was.People deserve to know what they live beside.

An Adolescent, a Teenager, a Pubescent Male Youth. I believe generally speaking a Child is a prepubescent which in just about any case would not be acting the way this boy has in seeking out partners, strange though the circumstances may be.

Granted in Irish law he's a minor under 15, the age of consent for non-criminal contact according to wikipedia.

I just find it odd to use a term that I would normally associate to someone half that age.

Whether you like it or not you were still a child to your mother at 14

I wouldnt mind as i have nothing to hide I actually have a copy of my references from Gardai already.

Oh, I'll be looking for a lot more than just gardai references... like you said yourself, I want to know what I'm living next to and that seems to be far mroe important than someone's privacy, so you won't mind?

Why stop at criminal records? It's extremly niave to think that if someone has a clean criminal record, they're 100% safe around kids. hell - you're the one who said you need to know what you live beside; well - so does your next-door neighbour.

But as you cant see through their skull then i would settle for now with knowing if someone down loads child porn on Internet so i can choose not to interact with them.
And i have nothing to hide nor do i interact with my neighbours so all is good for me:D

I love the people resort to insults when they can't back up their arguments.

You said you had the irght to know what you living next to. I pointed out the impracticalities of that. A person is not their criminal record (or lack of one).

I may have misread, but did you mean my skull...? If I did, then apologies. Also, the rolleyes. I refuse to use that smiley and cringe whenever I see someone else use it (even if the conversation is nothing to do with me). Just feels so condescending.

You misread I wouldn't insult you for disagreeing with me.Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Sorry it makes you feel like that,was just the comment about saying i am naive enough to think that someone who hasn't got a criminal record is safe.I never said that but sure would be easier to weed out the ones who do and be able to keep them away from your kids and away from you.
Imagine someone who down loads kiddie porn or who has abused kids as your next door neighbour and has been convicted of it.You know them years and around your kids all the time,and not a clue.
Once they are convicted of crimes such as these they should be named and shamed,and shunned in the community.
There is no room for these type of people,so we cant have them all shot.At least we can do is alienate them and make them feel exactly what they are.Evil

I stand by my inital point, though - at some point you don't have a right to know.

Rest of your post is a bit heartless. I feel that shunning them and isolating them is going to lead to more mental problems and more reoffending by these people, but that's a completely different issue.

It is not a mental problem what they do,and i care alot more about my kids mental stability and safety then what is going to happen to them,from been alienated.
Less offending as they wont be able to get next to near anyones kids as they will all know.And rightly so.
