How to: Tether iPhone to your iPad via MyWi

    Hey everyone,

Well I finally bought myself an iPad yesterday. After thinking and weighing up the pros and cons of paying more for the iPad WiFi + 3G model, I finally decided to go with a 32GB wifi model instead fo a 16GB wifi+3G after searching and searching for an app to get it working via my iPhone data (I have an unlimited data plan, FUP 10GB) .

So for almost the same price I got a 32GB instead of the 16GB 3G model and I can now tether my iPhone via the MyWi app.http://rockyourphone.com/index.php/mywi.html The app is only available to jailbroken iPhones because it is on the Cydia store. It takes your data connection and creates a wireless hotspot which is broadcast for any other wifi device to pick up liek your iPad, Macbook or even PSP or something.

But if it's something you wanna try out, I highly recommend it. Obviously it does drain the battery faster but I think it's handy to have when out and about and I wanna go online on a bigger screen.

Has anyone else tried this already maybe, and can give a better review of it?

I appreciate that you are only being helpful and agree that it is a very useful. However, it is something that has been available on various handsets for a number of years at this stage.

but for those people like myself that dont use another handset that has this function and has an iphone as my primary phone - this is a really helpful app.

if we wanted to talk about things that other phones have and the iphone hasn't - then im sure every detail has been mentioned a million times over on boards lol

Would this app be an improvement over PDAnet? I use that at the minute (free version) and it seems to do all my needs. I do find it a little slower to download info than the dongle from O2 did though. Would MyWi improve that I wonder? I also use two PC's on the WiFi connection from time to time. Can MyWi do the same or are there improvements?

    It's also a lot cheaper than PDAnet at $10 v $30!!

Can someone clarify something re mywi? I have a 1GB data add on with an iPhone (not an iPhone specific 2GB add on - just the generic 1GB addon). I thought that MyWi creates a hotspot from the 3G signal (Cellular Data Network) and didn't activate the Internet Tethering option? However, as I had it on yesterday I went in to check and the Internet Tethering option was ON. doesn't that then activate/incur the additional tethering pricing, distinct from my 1GB add on? ie > if internet tethering is on, by default (you can't change it) open.internet is activated, which is o2's way of knowing if one is tethering or not... I thought this process would circumvent that? A little confused, as I don't want to get a massive bill for the 30+odd MB I used to test the connection with via my iPad.
If anyone can illuminate whats going on here I'd really appreciated it??

Just to clarify, I don't have any official tethering bundle via o2. I thought this did away with the need for that, but internet tethering is on when MYWi is on, so... if I'm correct what's the point of this?
    Cheers,
    K

I'm not too sure about the tethering thing to be honest. I'm with meteor and it works perfectly. Is there a facility with o2 to check your call history online without having to wait until the end of your billing cycle for your printed bill to arrive? Check that and see if there are extra charges in their and let us know.

Hey dmn, cheers for the reply. O2 has the facility, but crucially its only up to 05/06. I installed MyWi on 06/06! Called O2 yesterday and they gave me some line about delays in data processing around billing cycle... So.. I'm still in the dark on that front. They said it will get back up to real time "before the end of the week" which I think is nuts but, hey, there ya go..

Just got it from Cydia today and using it to browse on my iPad. Works a treat if a little slow at times but perfect, nice one OP.
