Cheapest Reliable tyres in Dublin

    Hi,

Looking to fit four new tyres - 205/55/R16. Where can I get new good and reliable tryes? Almost everyone has only Bridgestone and Continental which comes to around €100+ each. Is there any place in Dublin where I can get good cheaper brands? Like Kumhos or Nankang or something like that? I came across a place which had Wanli but I don't want that as they don't seem safe!

What about part worn tyres? I read on here about part worn tyres so if they are testest, puncture free and have at least 7mm how will they compare to new ones which have around 8mm?

    Thanks

Does it have to be in Dublin? Why not order from Camskill and get the fitted locally?

I wouldn't mind that but is there really that big a difference between bridgestone and kumhos that they cost almost double!?

Tried that and eiretyres also but I need them before the weekend so has to be a shop.

Try www.eiretyres.net - you'd obviously need to get them fitted as well which might cancel out a few of the savings. Edit - didn't see your last post when I posted that.

    Kumhos are a decent brand.

when it comes down to it, yes.
I guess most people wouldn't reach that limit though but..still, I'd spend the extra if the extra cash wasn't that big an issue.

If you can buy secondhand tyres that are good brand like Continental, Michelin etc then it would be much better than buy Wanli or Sunny etc.

    This place is excellent http://www.tyreland.ie/

Really good service compared to some other places I have visited.

Pop in to Advance Tyres, read the multi tyre test they have on different 205/55/16H tyres, and see what sort of saving you'd get by fitting cheap tyres.

The results from the Chinese Wanlai tyres are f***ing scary

Kumhos are fine, OEM on Fords in some markets.

Stay away from the Chinese cheapos. As mentioned above, tyres are not something to scrimp on.

I know about Wanli and I already said I won't be using those even for free! By Advance Tyres do you mean Advance Pitstop? If it is them then maybe they scare you before charging you over the odds! They came out as the most expensive for their tyres when in another tyre shop down the road you could get them €15-€20 cheaper!

Sorry, it is Advance Pitstop. I was waiting on new tyres for a car last week and they have loads of magazine's in reception. It's a re-print of the Auto Express tyre test that was done recently.

It's very comprehensive and imho, well worth a read before you buy tyres.

Turns out, my Conti Premium Contact are the best all rounders. Still going strong with 48,000km on them as well.

The last second hand car I picked up had been fitted with new tyres, they were those pieces of crap. They were bloody lethal, like driving on banana skins no matter what the road conditions were. Got rid of them as soon as possible with only a relatively small amount of miles on them.

SO does anyone know where you can get Kumhos? I know where to get Bridgestone and Continental ones but I want Kumhos! :)

www.tyres4less.ie might have them, but they probably won't be much cheaper.

Dave McCann Tyres in Blanchardstown can also get them.

If you cannot find the Kumho then I would recommend these:

A very underrated but good brand. I bought them locally on my previous Focus for about €75 each fitted.

I would highly recommend going with these Falken FK452's then.

If you order these this evening I'm pretty sure you will have them on Thursday morning, but almost definitely by the weekend. Camskill have a same day dispatch policy with these. I got my the day after I ordered!

I have two of these in 18" form waiting to go on my GTI, and I'll probably just go ahead and order another 2 anyway. My mate has had them on his Astra OPC for over a year now and says they are the job. Extremely reasonable too, and when you do your research you'll see that they can hold their own against the bigegr brands.

4 of them delivered to you for €265! You're laughing.

My car had wanli's on when I bought it, really bad in the wet, noisy and horrible ride. Replaced with vredesteins, they are in a different league.

+1 for the Vredestein. Excellent tyre; have them on both cars. Fitted locally after delivery from Camskill.
Came 3rd behind Conti and Goodyear on that test linked above - but at a fraction of the price.
