Getting new keys cut - locksmith price vs dealership

Bought a car, only got one key with it. (Stupid, I know. Oh well. Live and learn!)

Two locksmiths (one in Dublin city centre and autokey.ie) said they charge €90 for copying a key with an RFID chip. The first locksmith place tried to tell me a dealer would charge €190.

Ford dealer (Ashley, North Circular Road) wants €90 for *three* keys, which will include a red 'master' one, and 40 euro for pairing them all with the ECU. Much better value, eh?
They'll cut a non-chipped key for only €8. Totally reasonable, as the blanks cost $7 on ebay!

I was surprised to find that after reading all the moaning here about dealers, they're beating the pants off a couple of independent companies for a job where I had every expectation of getting screwed.

Figured this was worth documenting in case anyone else needs keys in the future. :)

In fairness ford are doing it bloody cheap, i know VW were charging crazy money for keys. Can't remember how much, but it was around the 250 mark, I stuck with having 1 key and made sure not to lose it :)

Mad money only comes into the equation with the rolling codes, and plip keys. €90 for an RFID key copy is extortionate

Needed to get a second key cut for a mitsubishi pajero pinin a few years ago. Bog standard key (no electronics).

    Mitsubishi dealers - 65 euro.

Locksmith in city centre - 10 euro.
