Anyone know where the best place is to get private swimming lessons in the city?

Living in Mahon so was looking at Rochestown Park Hotel but looks like you have to join the club for about €800 a year before they would consider you for lessons. Similar with the Silversprings i think.

Maybe try the Mardyke, I know a few of the teachers down there and they are excellent. Rates seem better - Membership

I think here has the cost of the swimming lessons.

I could also do with some private lessons, I rang Mardyke and they don't do private lessons only groups (possibly starting next week).

Reganovski, if you hear of anything please let me know.

    Thanks,

I think Brookfield do private swimming lessons.

If you are living in Mahon then the nearest pool offering private lessons is Oakgrove Leisure Centre-it's on Ringmahon Road close to the river. There are a number of teachers there and the classes will continue for the summer. I teach there so I'd be biased in saying that they are good classes!

Silver Springs do private lessons too. Eilis Burns teaches there full-time, she's a fantastic teacher but she will be finishing up for the summer soon. If you want to try to get a place with her for September it would be a good idea to book in the next couple of weeks while she's still around, she's very busy and may even be booked up for Sept already.

I'm not sure where else offers private classes besides Brookfield, which has already been mentioned.

I rang Oakgrove, they have an intense training session on next week.
    - 4 days, Monday (14th) to Thursday (17th)
    - 9pm to 9.40pm
    - €55

I explained that I'm at the very (v) basic level & they said I'd be fine, so I've signed up.

There's more lessons starting in a few weeks too.

    Thanks swimforever for posting.

    Cheers,

    You're welcome!

They usually do those throughout the summer as long as they have the interest. It's a great way to learn because you really build on what you learn when you're going every night more so than every week, you forget less in between lessons that way!

There's usually quite a few beginners too so you'll be fine, they split people up depending on ability and then sometimes move people around as the week goes on and people progress at different rates.

Have fun with it and let us know how you get on! Hope it goes well for you :)

+1 for Oakgrove, Ronan taught me how to swim there (before he fecked off to South America, the jammy git :) )

At 26 years of age and completely unable to swim heading for the first lesson was nerve racking, but really glad I did it. Everyone at oakgrove was super friendly too.
