    Hey,

Just wondering if anyone can give me any info on this. I've been given the position as a Junior Cert corrector for the first time, it's CSPE. I'm just wondering how much can I expect to make off this after tax? As I was thinking of going on holidays at this time and if it isn't worth my while I may pass on the opportunity. Thanks

While I can't tell you exactly how much it is, I can tell you that it will be worth your while in terms of what you will learn from it, but financially it's not that great when you consider the deadlines and workload.

I would estimate 1400ish...after tax. Ages since I did JC though. Well worth it job-wise too if you ask me, not to mention knowing the paper inside out.

The financial side of things isn't particularly great, its more in terms of what you learn from correcting the papers, I correct leaving cert english and I find it very beneficial correcting the scripts of other students

I think CSPE is in around the €7 per script corrected, but that is for the exam paper and the project together. A friend of mine has been correcting CSPE for the last couple of years, I think she used to get about 250 papers (and projects). So that will be taxed, you'll get an admin/conference fee (can't remember how much that is, maybe around €200) and then you'll have your expenses mileage to the conference and to and from the post office when sending sample scripts to your examiner, and an overnight expense if you live more than 80km from Athlone when travelling to the conference.

So €1400 would be a pretty good estimate.

Again, the experience is invaluable. It really opens your eyes to how papers are corrected and should be answered.

I corrected CSPE in 2008 - my first any only time. Its about E7 per candidate which includes the paper and the project and you get paid for attending the conference, admin money, travel etc. I got E500 upfront in July and then maybe E1100 in early September. A lot is taken in tax and so its not that much for three weeks of very solid and intense work. I'm glad I did it though and as I've had two groups of third years for CSPE since, I've known exactly what they should put in their projects.

Thinking of doing it next year, but I am worrying about how long it will take me. Killed me to do 100 a week correcting mocks. How long were ye all correcting in the past for??? Don't want to lose every but of my summer. Also can you do it even if you were a superintendent too??

They often only give you one or other your first year. I did both some years though. It's great experience. Keep in mind with mocks you were probably working too though, also not given as much guidance about their correction either, my head examiner gave me great tips the first year and it improved my correction speed unbelievably. Best of luck!

It's about 3 weeks start to finish.

I only ever corrected History and Environmental and Social Studies but we used to get our papers end of June start of July and have to have everything back in, including the report, by 23rd July or so. I would say you should be finished certainly by the end of July.

    Hi,

I am just wondering if anybody could answer the following questions that I have in relation to correcting Junior Certificate English.
I have recently applied to correct Junior Certificate English for the first time. Could anyone tell me when the conference is on for the examiners? I know that it is towards the end of June but I am just thinking of dates for holidays already!
Also, when do the papers have to be back in to the Examinations Commission?
    Thank you in advance.

You won't know the date until at least 4-6 weeks before the conference. Depending on when you start you could finish somewhere between the middle of July and August bank holiday weekend.

The conference is usually a week after the actual exam. As English is the first exam, it's also the first conference and the first to be finished.
