    Hi folks,

I'm selling my car to an individual. Who sends the form off to Shannon?

I'm being paid by draft so I'm thinking that if I send it off as soon as the draft clears I should be ok, no?

But a buyer is hardly going to want to drive off without the new form in his hand?

    What is the normal protocol?

I've no reason to think there's anything wrong with the draft, person seems respectable. But it's for a decent sum and I suppose there's always a chance.

    Thanks folks

Seller sends it. The buyer should have no issue with it. It is all about the seller making sure the money has come through.

Leslies correct.. you send it, but don't let him drive off with it until it's cleared and the funds are actually in your account.

Is this the same procedure if you sell to a dealer??? My dealer took the log book from me and gave me a receipt. He said my new log book will arrive in a couple of days.

It would be reasonable for the buyer to not trust you to send it on afterwards, so many people will both go to the nearest postbox and drop it in.

Normally the seller in a private sale sends off the documentation.

If buying from a dealer (it struck me as very weird the first time) you drive off with no paperwork bar the reciept. The dealer then sends off the info to shannon and you get the logbook in the post.

Thats how I do it.Get the buyer to fill it in,hand over the cash and then go to a post box at the same time and post it.

If however its a cheque/draft I wait till it clears and then send the paperwork. If for some reason the cheque/draft bounces or doesnt clear the car is still in your name and you can report it stolen.

A draft wouldnt bounce..the money has already been credited to the bank in question so you should be able to access the funds once lodged in your account?

    It will if it's forged.

Always ring the issuing bank to verify a drafts authenticity.
