Fire safety in apartment block

    Hi

My current apartment block has no fire alarm system:eek:, I have repeatedly asked my landlord to rectify this. Before I speak to him one final time can anyone tell me how many fire alarms he should have in a building with multiple apartments, does he have to supply fire alarms to each individual apartment aswell as in the common area? Also it seems everyone is smoking in the hallways and in their apartments..is this legal?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks, I am looking for the legalities of this, whether or not it is illegal to smoke in a rented apartment, is it considered a public place as the building is shared. Also, can the landlord put a smoke alarm in my apartment and a smoke alarm in the main building, is that sufficient? Anyone who knows the legalities on this I would very much appreciate it.

Your local fire officer will be intimately familiar with the legalities, and talking to him will be free.
