Currently looking at buying the iPod touch (8gb) for 189.00

However, I've heard there is a new version of the ipod touch coming out out in the next few months?
Can anyone tell me if it would be a bad idea to buy the current 8gb version - what price is the new one likely to retail at?

And what are the new features?

190.00 is my absolute max, so perhaps waiting would be futile anyway!

    Thanks.

The 8GB model is far less ''future-proof'' then the higher models. It's internals aren't as good, so the next generation of apps (games, office tools etc) won't be able to run on it (Angry Birds, an awesome game, won't run on my old 8gb).

However it will run on any ipod touch (including my 8gb) using the latest OS

There are less likely to be major chamges to the ipod touch, than the iphone and for what its worth, I think you're getting value at that price

That's true also. e189 is a great price for that device.

I would advise to buy the 32gb ipod 3g instead.

It has a faster processor and more ram. You can easily buy one from adverts for the same price you want to spend.

    I bought a 64gb one for 200 :)

September 8th or 9th for the next iPod Touch refresh. If you are willing to wait it might be worth it. There'll probably be a camera, extra storage and better performance for the same price.

If it's less than 200, I think it would be worth waiting.

When will we know the new features? Or do we just have to wait until the launch date?

Also some price adjustments could be on the cards like every year, I reckon they'll drop the 8GB. I'd love to see a 128GB Touch but don't think it will arrive this year; it would make it the ultimate PMP.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a front facing camera too, depending how Apple push Video Chat on the iPhone 4G. Also a higher resolution screen too.

Come mid-August there will be the usual talk/leaks of new iPods. Going by the huge amount of leaks of the iPhone 4G I think it could be possible we will see a few leaked pics of new iPods.

    Thanks for that link.

Out of interest, what does it mean when it says the nano is coming to the end of a cycle?
Is it possible that the nano will be replaced soon with a new machine, rather than just a updated version?

End of cycle just means a new iPod is due, not necessarily a totally new Hardware and Specs. Minor tweaks and minor upgrades are just as possible.

Macrumor's guess is as good as ours. Once an iPod comes towards being a year old, it is said to be at the end of its' cycle.

Can anyone tell me about battery life (iPod Touch) - a mate said that battery life is very poor if connected to wifi. Mobile internet is the big draw for me - I'm in airports a lot so internet access would be useful for me. But not if the device will run out of power after 2 or 3 hours.
Was he correct? I hope he was wrong:)
