    Hello

    I just bought a 2005 Audi A3 2 litre diesel 3 door

All fine, lovely car, love the poke in it ( compared to my old 1.6 petrol Golf ! )

Just one thing I noticed, the rear windscreen washer jet is not spraying out water when I activate it, there is water in the water tank for this and it works for the front screen window but not on the bank one

I also noticed that the windscreen washer symbol did not come on when the windscreen washer fluid was empty

I have read stuff before about water lodging behind the passenger seat and checked around here but cant feel any dampness

    Any advice or tips ?

I have an 07 A3, 1.6 - for my rear wiper teh water only jets when the arm is on the way back... As in (if you stand behind teh car looking at it) the wiper sits on the right side of the window (behind driver seat) when you oush in the wiper control (hold it back for water) there is no water when the blade moves from right ot left but the water jets when the wiper tehn goes back - from left to right. Hard to explain - maybe your not holder the control down for long enough? Hold it until it has reached teh other side of the window - it should then start to jet?

I think I know what you mean, the water only jets out when the wiper is over to the very right. Oh believe me, I am holding it down for long enough :)

Would an a A3 of this year suffer from the same problem the Mark 4 Golf's and similarly designed VAG's suffer from?

It sounds like the problem I had in my Golf where the water pipe pops off the motor. They made that Golf untill 2005ish so maybe you have the same problem.

I hope so anyway because its a very easy fix.

If you are DIY inclined take off the interior panel of the boot lid and take a look at the pipes coming out of the motor.

My pipe popped at both the motor and also up at the centre brake light so you need to take the other pieces of trim off to check the other one.

If that is the problem my fix was to cut the plastic joints off and then get some very tight rubber tubing, heat it up and push the old pipe a good inch into the new rubber pipe at both ends and at both places.

But I guess before you do any of that run the window washer for about 5 or 10 seconds with the boot closed and see if you have any leakage. The water should be at the boot lacth you see when you open the boot. Check the interior cloth for dampness too..

Its a risky one but 5 seconds of water should dry out nicely.

It did for me, I was doing it for ages before I bothered to check it and find the boot floor flooded.

hello, done this already. ie. manually closed lock on boot without closing down the actual boot lid and activated teh rear washer jet and nothing leaked there either as far as I could see

try poking a small needle into the jet as there may be a small piece of dirt stuck in it.worked for me anyway

I had a similar problem with the front jets on my 02 A4. Took off the jets and left them soaking in vinegar for about an hour. It breaks down the limescale buildup. This worked a few times but eventually had to get new jets from the dealers. Cost about 25 each.
Be careful trying to clear them with needles as I heard that they are easily damaged.

    Hi

I'd something similar. rear wiper worked fine but washer never worked. can hear motor working. one day the wiper stopped in the middle of my rear window and would not move. on way home i kept trying to get it to move but I also kept trying the washer. when got home i opened the boot and a lot of water came out of the boot lid. removed cover on lid and took face off part that washer goes in to. water was leaking between the two parts and had seized the gears for the rear wiper. loaded gears with wd40 and packed with grease. then got a 6mm o-ring and put over nipple that sticks out. you'll understand when you open the lot up. It hasn't leaked since.
