Girlfriend started smoking

My girlfriend has recently started smoking. She's 25. We have been going out for about 3 years. 18 months or so ago she started having the occasional fag on a night out. I suspected a few weeks back that she was smoking during the day and about a week ago she came clean. She smokes 7-8 a day. The smoking does not really bother me, but is it not a bit strange that she is starting at 25? She is generally very health conscious (eats well ,gym regularly etc), so I find this a bit strange. Anyone have any similar experiences?

Yrs ago a gf of mine started the same thing. I am afraid for my own health having grown up in a smokers environment I had to call it a day. When we talked about it she admitted she enjoyed smoking too much and was not willing to try to give it up for us. Decision made...

well personally i used to smoke, gave them up and then started again mid twenties. smoking is enjoyable with a drink or after food especially so i dont really think its weird shes started at 25. anyway, id advise her to stop now. iv been on and off smoking for years and its unbelievably hard to quit once you become accustomed to it. she wont really be going to the gym much longer either if she keeps it up, hard to excercise when your out of breath from just walking up the stairs.

That's the thing- she never smoked when she was younger. Is it not more normal to start when you are in your teens? I don't know anyone else who has taken it up so late.

Have a friend that started in his thirties.. Wouldn't mind be he was so anti-smoking that I nearly fainted with the shock of finding out...
It just goes to show that ANYONE can get addicted...

Been with my OH for 6 years, she smoked before we started going out, but by the end of year one I couldnt deal with it any more, so just gave her a choice, I wasnt prepared to stay in a house that smelled of smoke or kiss ash tray etc, she chose me.... i dont think she regrets it!!

Someone starting to smoke in the middle of a relationship does not show much respect for the OP. I'd nip this in the bud immediately.

I started smoking at the age of 19, I was still smoking 10 years later when i met my girl 5 years ago, she never smoked. She never pressured me to stop, I always wanted to stop and made several failed attempts. She decided to live with me over 2.5 years ago and i decided enough was enough and i successfully gave up smoking. So happy to have given them up. I enjoyed smoking but i knew they were effecting me and my girl didn't like them or the smell.
    I did it for her.
Ask her to stop for you and for herself too. Be patient, she is addicted. Be supportive, but be firm, she must stop. They will ruin her life, she will be broke, loose the ability to smell and taste properly, age rapidly, die young and in the meantime smell like an ashtray.
Best of luck to ye both.
