I've been offered a great deal on the scrappage scheme today. It's a new 1.2 petrol Elegance model and I should have it in four weeks. But I don 't know anything about them, has anybody got experience with the Skodas especially the Octavias, good or bad stories I'm all ears, I have until Fri to decide
    thanks

I don't know about that engine as it's new out, but the Octavia Elegance is a very nice car.

Octavia's in general don't give many issues at all.

Have you driven the car with that engine to make sure you are happy with it? I'd be interested to hear how that performs.

Octavia's are a good soild car, my Dad has 09 (new shape) 1.9tdi model.
Build quality is a very high standard, well put together.

His previous car was a 00 octavia 1.9tdi, it was the facelift mk1 model - again build quality was very good.

The only concern id have is over the 1.2 engine. It seems a bit small for a car of this size, BUT, reading up on it (if its the TSI engine) its more than powerful enough. Its producing around 105bhp, and 175nm of torque. The diesel 1.9 tdi produces 104bhp and 250nm of torque. So, that makes for good reading, the petrol version has less torque, but youve got to remember how powerful those diesel engines are.

Everything mechanical is good, all VW/Audi parts with Skoda logos. Good reliable car, and good mpg.

Best advice is to take it out for a long test drive, check everything- ride comfort, road noise, quality of interior finishes..see how it pulls away from the lights, see how good it pulls in higher gears.

If youre happy with it, the go for it!

It's only major downside is that it's terrible at powerslides :D

Op one thing ill say is dont believe all this bs about the octavia being a poor mans passat etc etc, the type of talk fellas in pub talk. I have always had passats as my missus hasnt got over the badge snobbery yet;). They are good cars my mate always keeps octavias and has less problems than me!!!!. So think about that
