Amazing to drive once set up right, a friend of mine, his brothers one is set up perfect, and honestly nothing comes close!

Petrol consumption is a nightmare though, and no diesel.

    What?

It's a 2.0 family car that puts out about 150bhp and it's about as fast as a Fiat 500 to 60.

Was there a thread on here (or maybe I read it somewhere else) that essentially said that Altezzas put out considerably less than Toyota claimed, in the region of 170bhp?

    Google showed me that too.

In fairness, when you're talking about Altezza's you're gonna be wanting a Beams tuned one, not a 4 gear auto!

Very few AS200's would have been imported, when talking about an Altezza the assumption would be its an RS200, if its not then an IS200 is better value.

True but its not that low, most owners clubs have reported an average of 190 bhp on dyno days.

I see, a drop your expect to see in a 10 year old car anyways. Could of sworn I read a page about massive discrepancys though.

Some have bad figures alright, 190bhp is an average so you'd probably see some with 170 - 180 in there. Alot of them wouldn't have been minded.

As a comparison my 10 year old stock UK spec Integra had only lost 4bhp when it was dyno'd last November.

You spend too much time trawling wikipedia.

As Draffodx explained, nobody talking about an Altezza would be talking about the AS200 considering an AS200 is really an IS200 over here.

If anyone's talking about an Altezza over here, it'll be the RS200, and they're not THAT bad despite what people are saying here.

It'll be around the 200-210bhp mark, it's fairly thirsty yea, they've got a bit of an image for boy racer cars, but they're quite comfortable and you could have a bit of fun in one seeing as they're RWD.

Not too bad for a somewhat spacious, somewhat comfortable, cheap to buy, cheap to tax (but not so cheap to run), car.

Some of the spotless white TRD Altezza's (not the faded cream ones) look very nice imo.

3SGE Beams in the Altezza is a cracking engine, for a 2.0 NASP it does a great job.

but in ireland roughly 190ish is correct...u can expect to get 25 to 30mpg
average..As with any vvti engine you have to drive this to the limit for it

The Altezza AS200 is basically the same as the IS200. The AS200/IS200 both have a 2.0 litre 6 cylinder engine with 155bhp.

The Altezza RS200 uses a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder Yamaha Beams engine with 210bhp.

How would you judge a car like that then? Track performance?!

Yes I do have a 07 320 - I'm also only 21 and have had the 320 for about 18 months now. The 320 is also completely top of the line with pretty much every extra on it and some BMW performance upgrades. Try getting insured in anything bigger than a 320 at 19/20/21 - it was never going to happen. I'm also looking at changing it at the moment.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the 320 - it's never going to set the world alight but I'll take it over a Altezza any day of the week.

Dude, when I was 19 I couldn't afford a new or almost new top of the line 320 with BMW performance upgrades. Fair play to you for being able to :)

I'm 29 and drive a car worth close to sfa ;)

My response was in reply to you saying the Altezza was horrible when someone asked about how are they to drive. They are rwd and similar performance to a 320. Ignoring the image they are much of a muchness to drive, that's all I was commenting on.

I wouldn't use 0-60 as a criteria, to answer your question what I look for is

    - likelyhood to break
    - how easy to fix
    - how little can I lose by driving this for 3 to 6 months

We're not all the Fresh Prince of D4 ;)

Put a mixture of E5 and Petrol into it and you'll be up at the JDM octane levels in no time.

*Yawn @ reference to age again*

If I here anymore about your age, your alleged financial status and your choice of car I'm going to puke.

And if what you say is true in your last thread (which I doubt) that you have a license since the day you were 17, that's 4 years of licensed driving, so a more better/faster car is very much obtainable. (With that being said, a friend has a 08 320D coupe in white and I love it!).
I had a 350Z at 23 and I started driving at 19 and I'm not loaded by any stretch of the imagination.

E5 has been shown to be only around 97/98 Ron and Octane boosters tend to only add 0.3 - 0.5 Ron.

We need a campaign for 100+ Ron here! :D

I meant to write E85, doh! :) I always do that even when talking about it too!

Wonder what they'd try charge us for 100RON over here? :)

The octane calculator here is real handy and probably doesn't get the attention it deserves!

Owned a 2001 IS200 for 6 months in 2007, not the quickest of cars granted but a lovely drive & IMO superior to the 320's that i test drove before i got into the lexus.
Liked the bmw but i found the interior's in the two that i test drove not to be in great condition & the is200 had way more extras.
As i said it wasn't the quickest which is why i got rid.

For you to say that they're 'horrible' to be honest exposes your possible lack of knowledge on cars in general or your a jap car hater/bmw 'fan', im not sure.

    Ok apologies.

The reason I was asking about the criteria you'd rate a Altezza - the majority of people I see driving them are boy racers (I know the irony of someone young using that term!) and generally 0-60 would be key for them and of course how stupid neon lights will look on the car.

    I'm not from D4, thank god! :p

Regarding the IS200 being 'just the same', that's been answered at least twice but basically, no they're not the same. They look more or less the same but they've very different engines.

There's no IS200 diesel either. There is an IS220 though (which is diesel), but that's a much newer car.

The OP did mention a 'Toyota Altezza' and Diesel in the opening post so.. until he/she comes back, god only knows what they meant.

honestly, that boyracerry version is way better then is200, beams engine is way better then the one in lexus.

OP if you do like the altezza, then go for it. I would own one personally, but you cant argua about taste!

All i know, if you looking for nice cruiser, then altezza is a nice choise, if you looking for performance cars ( now seriuos performance, not just a loud yoke) then i would stay away from altezza.

Its not bad car, it has some power in it, 4 doors, comfortable, good looking.

If i would need to choose between 320(e46) and altezza i would grab altezza any day. Running cost would be the same anyway, but you would have way nicer car which wouldnt be as comman as green Bin outside any household.

I've seen them getting stick on boards before and being called skangery ect but there not that bad of a car. I considered one before an Accord and had a loan of a mates for a few days, I found it a nice comfy car and whilst it wasn't blisteringly quick it wasn't slow by any means.

Petrol usage seemed no different to me than any other high revving jap car, it was by no means drinking it. Not a bad car in fairness too them, just watch that the arse hasn't been diffed out of it as they can go round&round no problem to them

I know but the Altezza is something that maybe only an enthusiast would talk about. So to ask if there's a diesel one is pretty... odd. Especially when there was never a diesel IS200 to begin with, let alone the more powerful RS200/Altezza.
It's like asking if Ferrari make a diesel etc.

That is rare. Would love a spin in that. That's the kind of Altezza I said I liked earlier - white with a decent body kit. Only problem is, a lot of knackers like that too. :(

Dunno if I'd pay that much money for one though...!

Indeed, they gleam the sum total of their "knowledge" from HonestJohn and Topgear and here, there are some that when somone asks about a car they have a quick peak on HJ and then post whatever sh1te is there as their own knowledge. 'tis unreal funny at times, if you then comment on this you get other f**ktards that throw it at you in other threads, entertainment in fairness.

The only reason the Altezza is known as a skanger car is because knob ends won't see beyond Bimmers and Audi and they feel they can look down their nose at the rest of the population.

(currently in a Bimmer myself but she's a 17 year old estate so not very knob ish :D)

All of the above is obviously a generalisation and is not aimed at anyone in particular, I'm sure we all know if it was aimed at anyone in particular I'd just say it straight.

I know that there is white one's floating around that have had the Tom's upgrade done but not from the factory by Tom's if you get me, nearly certain I read that Tom's only done black models from the factory.

Ya I get ya. To be honest i've heard a few different stories about the 280T's. But I know that the original 100 were built in 1999 anyway, whether they were all black or a variety of colours is something im not too sure on so cant give a definite answer.
