trying to decide on a college with shopping + night life as main points isnt a good idea, and shopping/nightlife are okayish, not as good as say cork or galway/limrick etc but you'll get by

Think you would prefer Waterford better then Carlow anyway.

Mite be an idea to say what course your looking at doing in waterford. With most courses youl be on the main campus, others will have you on college street campus (closer to town, but not very modern). In my opinion, where your based will reflect how you get on in college. While college street, while its often overlooked for college activitys (getting better though) and needs some modernisation, ive always got the vibe that it was a more friendly campus although i was based on the main campus.

Main campus has a LOT more students but also a lot more facilitys. Depending on your course, you could be in a fairly modern building, but even the older rooms are not that bad (apart from the prefabs out the back which are a freezer in winter).

Now the downsides. In my experience, dont expect anything to be done for you by the college on time, if at all. We got screwed around so much that i would not recommend the course i did to ANYONE. We were the gunine pigs between the change over of from an older course to a more modern course and it failed utterly. We are now finished the course without some fairly fundamental aspects that will cost us all jobs opportunuitys. I really hope other courses are not like ours, becuase if they are, then heres no hope for WIT

There is a lot of variation in the quality of the ITs. DIT and WIT are significantly ahead of the others (DIT is a bit better than WIT).

I seriously wouldn't choose Carlow over Waterford unless its either a points issue (in which case you should just put Carlow as 2nd pref anyway) or a money issue (ie you live in Carlow and want to save on rent).

help from lecturers just depends on what course you are in IMO, smaller course = more individual attention but i agree if i had to do it over again i wouldnt choose WIT for various reasons i.e being away from home, social scene in waterford is pretty crap at best compared to other cities such as galway/limrick/dublin or cork, and all those cities have much better academia.
