Anyone know if there is a service/repair man for camper/caravan fridges based around Galway? These are the 3-way ones that run on gas/mains/12V, so it'd require a qualified gas fitter.

Erm... if you ring Dometic , they'll probably suggest me tbh.

    Hi Aidan

Any chance of a ball-park figure on a fridge service?

My 3-way is getting a bit sticky about lighting on gas, which I guess is a fairly common symptom. I'm told its very probably simple enough, but I don't want hubby messing with gas, so I won't let him at it :D
Runs like a dream on mains & 12v

Hard to say tbh , without knowing what MH it's in , what age and the accessability . Some of 'em I'd do the Gas in 20 mins , others need the Fridge taken out....

I was planning on just bringing the fridge over to you.

I don't think you can easily access where you need to get to, by removing the fridge vents on the side of the campervan...so I figured its got to come out anyway :D

    Its an old Dometic

I'm good in tight spaces ! Take a pic of the vents , and if they clip off , a pic of what's inside the lower one ? What sort of MH ? If it's badged Dometic , not electrolux , it can't be too old?

Apologies, kept forgetting to get back to this and reply to you :o

    No its badged Electrolux :D

Here's a pic showing the vents...do you still want me to try and get one off to see what's behind it? if so which one, or both?

Sorry DollyD for not replying sooner . It would be best to remove it alright , seeing as the lower vent is on the floor , not the side . Actually doing one at the minute , out of a caravan... what a mess . Gas end all rotten , 220v Element broken , 12V switching melted... All working now though.

could be fridge repair week for you :)

I mentioned mine giving some problems a while ago.. well it's at it again..

hymer C644 1998 electrolux on the vents hymer on the fridge..

Problem is when I take the vents off only the very right pipe is heating as it turns the corner at the top beside the flu it gets cold and the rest of the fins are cold too...

looks like a blockage at that turn.... I've tried tapping it but no joy...

can you fix it Jim/Aidan/George/Peter.... or whatever your name is :)

the fridge is in since new in 1998 and it's definately an electrolux. says so on the inside freezer door...

I can take it out and get it to you if you think you can do somethign with it?

It's actually back half working now.... ie the freezer is cold but not frozen and the fridge is cool not cold

Sounds like either a dodgy thermostat , but the fact it's sometimes not cooling all the way around is worrying , like there is particles blocking the circulation of ammonia in the cooloing unit . TBH , the early Electrolux/Dometic fridges were an absolute disaster , I've had to replace several . Electolux had to redesign them completely , and have manual over-rides on the AES (Automatic Energy Selector) .

Check the thermocouple for the cooling unit , it'll be like a small aluminium wire clipped to the fins in the upper rear section of the back wall . Make sure it's clean , and properly clipped on .

I'll have a look at it... worst case senario how much is a new one? or can one be sourced SH?

My fridge is the most important part of the MH to me as I'm a fisherman and I wont say what I store in it for fear I might have to sell her to someone here someday ;)
