I was going to add this item on here but thought it deserved a separate thread.

I've been looking around for a cheapo 7/8 inch tablet PC. I not convinced about the functionality of Android yet. While you cannot directly compare an Android tablet with a WinCE tablet, I think this is good value.

    Works out at about €150.

Same one is available from a UK Ebay seller for £160 inc. free p&p which if shipped from the UK won't attract any taxes or duty. It seems to be in stock in the UK but you'll need to ask the seller to be sure he isn't drop shipping them from the far east.

It is quite dinky, you don't realise how much, until you see people handle it.

Clip courtesy of Engadget China. The manufacturer was a mystery for a good while. Made by a company called Kinstone.

    Yes.

Probably - customs seem to be catching more and more packages.

Check the version of CE and ensure it's got Flash 7+ support otherwise you'll be unable to use youtube and other sites that use flash.

That Seller looks like a drop shipper.

Any idea where your item was posted from?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,776 ✭✭✭podge3

I took the plunge and ordered one of these from Pandawill.

Hopefully customs will be kind to me.

How would one re-install the OS if the need ever arose?

Okay, well this is just what ive been seeing over the last few days.
    Asus EEE pad.
    MSI WindPad
    MeeGo Tablet
    LG UX10
    Dell Streak 5" tablet

Alright, most of the above are coming in q4 2010/q1 2011, but the point is, all of these companies, from Asus, MSI to Intel are pushing "tablets" at the minute. Now i'm sure the tablet in the OP is fine, and if people want it now then go for it. But if you're just buying it for the sake of it, or if you're unsure, i'd be inclined to wait!

I reckon the price of these will be a lot more than $180, although the spec does seem better and will no doubt have more features.

    I'm getting an X10 because

    1. Its running WinCE and not Android. I don't think Android is developed enough yet. Most of the apps seem to be for amusement rather than anything useful
    2. Has a HDMI port and claims to output 1080P (although with its processor and memory its hard to see how that will work)
    3. Has GPS

I think the cheaper tablets on DX and elsewhere are toys. This represents IMHO something a little more.

The more that come on the market the better, i dont mind spending the extra for the spec!!

There is a good vid of the X10 here: http://www.clonedinchina.com/2010/05/video-imito-im7-7-inch-tablet-runs-windows-ce.html.

The touchscreen seems much more responsive than the cheapo Android tablets.

The gloss is just a very elaborate skin. The video showing the user 'dropping out' of the skin to try and connect to a wifi hot spot really puts me off.

It is.. just Windows CE, no matter how you dress it up. I think the prices quoted so far are too expensive for what it is.

Isn't there a wifi icon on the scrollbar at the bottom of the screen?

I think it comes with iGo but you could probably get any CE compatible to work on it.

since this is win ce, i dont think 1) skype is available for it
    2) certainly no video call.

would have needed to have been full windows for it to have video calls.
not even android is ready with a video skype app yet.

If you read the Q's & A's in the OP's post link you will see this
Does it has Mic? Work with Skype ? yes.it has mic.and can work with skype.u need install the CE version.
