Points for speeding revoked?

I was out last night and a friend of a friend was telling us that he had penalty points revoked during the week. He was caught speeding, well over the limit apparently and as far as he knew he had received points but he said that these points were revoked during the week due to an error by the gaurds.

Does anyone know what this error could have been? I thought if you get caught speeding you get points and that was it. Excuse my ignorance, I'm not knowledgeable on the subject, hence the reason I didn't ask him myself.

Incorrectly applied special speed limit is probably the most common cause of this happening.

As in if it was a 50km zone and they recorded it as a 60km zone?

As in there are signs for 50/60km/h and the council were idiots and didn't actually put the limit in place in law. Meaning it'd be 80 or 100 depending on road type.

No, he means where the council didn't follow the rules in implementing a change in speed limit.

I did in my case... although I made a point of asking for it!

I was done for speeding in Co Roscommon in April. The Notice said the offence took place at "Named Place, Roscommon, Roscommon" Now I would normally understand that to be ".... Roscommon Town, Co Roscommon. But I was done in a completely different town on Co. Roscommon. I have accepted my medicine, but have been wondering should I question the location, as it is well known that if the wrong address of an offence is given on a summons, the case will be thrown out.
