Could you not just get the bus? The 66/67 stops on the quays near O'Connell Bridge. It would be less than a 10 minute walk then to Connolly Station and much more frequent than getting the Maynooth train.

    ^definitely the best option

how long would that take ? looks like train would take approx 30 mins

never used any dublin public transport before - original country girl :)

Get the 25/a, 66/a/b/d, 67/a, depending where in Dublin you are.

Or even better, get the 66X, 67X, or 25X, and it'll skip Chapelizard, saving time.

Park the car at Adamstown station and either get the train and LUAS/90/92 to Connolly or get the 151 into town; it has bus lane for much of it's route.

66 in the mornings can take anything up to an hour and a half.

There is a large carpark at Leixlip Louisa Bridge station and it's just off the motorway. Train is fairly frequent but the parking will cost you €2 per day. For this reason I would try the various buses from Lucan first.

do you know if they charge for parking at adamstown station?

thanks guys - you are all a great help

As far as I know Adamstown is one of the very few stations with free parking. Virtually no-one uses it.

Actually I could be wrong.. They say €4 per day here

ok great - the only reason im more leaning towards the train (and im only assuming here) has more chance of running to time

and adamstown is only up the road a bit from where im living ...

first week in new job so have to make good impression :)

I wouldn't necessarily say so. The expresso buses have the advantage of a direct routes and can avoid congestion & accidents if necessary. Trains from Adamstown suffer from being at hte end of the journey and have the most variability. Bus is quicker than Luas from Heuston to O'Connell Bridge. Trains from Leixlip occasionally suffer because of the level crossings. By car, Heuston to O'Connell Bridge is immensely slow an you risk having to pay €20+ per day for parking

New job, give your self plenty of time.

would you reckon driving to red cow and luas to connolly be a goer ?

would have to see how long lucan to red cow on M50 will take first

In the morning! That's crazy... it'll take forever! What time are you in work? Get the 25x, if you get the one that leaves at 8am or earlier it'll get you there in ~45mins. If you get the same one everyday it'll get you in at a consistent time. Plus it's a lot cheaper than petrol + luas (with a 90min/weekly/annual bus pass).

Dublin bus is a pretty reliable and decent service. It's bus-lane all the way from Lucan.

no worries :) strange places can be daunting, and though dublin bus is good it's anything but visitor friendly.

Yep 12 mins walk according to google maps

Guys - Adamstown station is on the line that serves Heuston, not Connolly.

Sazza, your best bet in my opinion is the bus.
You'll have to drive 10-15mins to get to Leixlip Louisa, then pay to park there, pay for the train and the train takes 35 or so mins to get to Connolly.

    I'd just get the bus!
Depending on which side of Lucan you live in, you can get the 25a or the 66a/b, 67, 25 etc.

Keep it simple - if you are travelling in the rush hour use the 25X, 66X or 67X Xpresso buses as they operate via the Chapelizod bypass.

The other buses get snarled up in Chapelizod Village traffic.

I'd get the bus. I don't understand the advantage of driving backwards to leixlip and then getting the train. Going from Adamstown train station also isn't that convenient, it'll only get you as far as Heuston. Bus seems to be your best option, and as others have said try for the xpressos if you can:)

Definitely an X bus is the way to go.
