Portarlington Train Station

Just a quick question for those in the know (as they aren't answering the phone at the station).

I've got to travel to Galway soon, and will have to leave the car in Portarlington overnight. What is the parking situation at the Portarlington Station? Is it secure? Is it a gated car-park, or on-street parking? How much is it?

    Cheers in advance.

There is likely to be CCTV and no gate and no security personnel. It might be OK overnight, but an extended stay might be another matter. Is getting a taxi to the station practical?

Cheers Victor. I completely missed that link.

No, I'll have to drive as I'll be going from Carlow. Doesn't sound very promising there though.

Why drive from Carlow? Is it that you are getting the first train in the morning?

Off to a stag in Galway, and I don't want to have to drive back until I'm fully safe to drive. So I figure if I leave late afternoon on the Sunday, and have a full train journey, I'll be grand.

I was looking at the connections from Carlow, and it's quite a long wait, and pretty expensive, so I think we'll drive to Portarlington.

I commute from Portarlington daily, carpark is newly finished, and plenty of cars seem to park over night. Its well lit and visible from a busyish street. Obviously still a risk though.

This is actually a disadvantage. If you're leaving your vehicle somewhere for a length of time you want it to be out of sight, out of mind.
