I got the head gasket changed in my 02 Clio at the start of the month. Yesterday the oil light came on and when i checked the levels, it was low so i topped it up. The light still kept coming on and off so I brought the car back to advance pitstop where i got the gasket changed and explained what had happened, they checked it and said it was a rusty sensor but that they cleaned it up. To be honest i felt they were fobbing me off but gave them the benefit of the doubt and took the car back but now the light is coming back on again.
I'll be honest and say im a woman who knows nothing about cars but surely the oil shouldn't be low when it was only changed at the start of the month with the gasket change? So should I go back to advance pitstop and insist they check it again or would i be better just going to one of the private mechanics recommended on other threads on here? Im based in galway.
    Any advice would be appreciated!

Are you checking the oil level on level ground? How is the coolant level? Is there any visible signs of an oil leak on the road/pavement where you park your car?

A defective sensor would bring on the oil (level/pressure) warning lamp. If it was the oil level warning light, check the oil level on the dipstick - if it's okay on the dipstick, it's very likely to be a failing sensor. If it's the pressure light, you will need someone with specialist equipment to check the oil pressure.

If you didn't trust their work, you should bring it to a reputable mechanic to check it out - it may be that they did a poor job or something totally unrelated.

    There's your problem right there.

if it is a sensor then its not their responsibility unless you want to give them another job.

A trusted mechanic this time maybe.

yep checking it on the level, since i topped it up yesterday the oil level hasn't gone down but the light keeps coming on, mainly when i'm doing below 60km p/h. There's no sign of leaks under the car either.
To be honest i had no reason not to trust the work, i don't know any mechanics coz im not from here and my thinking i should be safe enough with a nationwide brand even if they're not the cheapest. To me the fact that the oil level was low again after it was only changed on the 6th of May is setting off alarm bells that it's more serious than just a faulty sensor, but as i said, I don't know much about cars so maybe I'm just being paranoid

Get it to a mechanic asap, explain exactly what has been done. See what their diagnosis is and take it from there.

It may be the oil pressure light that is coming on. If you drive with low oil pressure, you will destroy the engine. The oil level in the sump bears no relation to oil pressure so get checked asap.
Going to advance pitstop for engine work is a poor decision imo. i wouldnt let any of those chain garages work on a pushbike much less a car.
