A teacher has told me not to use pencils in the junior cert, but I prefer them over pens especially because it is so easy to remove a mistake.

Do I have to use pen?

You can use whatever you find easiest to work with, maybe use pencil in maths. But most people use pen i think...

People always say "oh pencil fades", I was looking through some of my first year sheets and they were written in pencil and they weren't faded at all.

    It's up to you really!:)

pen, if you make a mistake cross it out so it's still readable. you can still get marks for stuff that's crossed out, you can't get marks for something that you have rubbed out or may have faded and be illegible.

you are paying to take these exams, use as much paper as you like.

For maths I use pencil..I make too many little mistakes that I'll have to come back to and fix!
Everything else I use pen for...
I don't think it really matters tbh!
    Whatever you're more comfortable with!

Prefer pen tbh, coz like people before me said pencil does fade a little bit over time and also if you rub it out, its gone your not going to get anything for it, atleast if you put a line through it, it might merit attempt marks!

Also I think writing in pencil its kinda child like and my CSPE techer(who teaches Irish and english also) said when giving marks for overall presentation, the people who write in pencil tend to get a little less...
    *shrugs* Idk I prefer pen

Nah u have to use a blue or black pen in JC. Why would you want to use a pencil anyway ? You are doing JC for God's sake, only children use pencils

If you use a pen, and put a line through an incorrect answer they still have to read it and mark it, as its on the actual page.

If you use a pencil, all previous attempts are removed so no marks can be awarded for attempting a question.

(what my home economics teacher said anyways)

    What Kevin! says is true.
Use a blue or black pen.
    NEVER red or green.

Least they were only mocks lol, that's what there for.

I think it would be worse to use a red pen, green is still pretty bad though.

    he is pretty bad though..

He was once asked for 'two decomposers' and his answer was 'photosynthesis'

The examiners use red pen to correct and the advising examiners use green to do any necessary adjustments, so using either is a sure way to piss your correctors off.

Using green isn't the best option either because seemingly it's the most common colour for colour blindness.

You would be doing yourself a huge disservice not to write in blue or black pen. Examiners are temperamental creatures.

I second that, just make sure to fill in the figures in pen once satisfied... If ya wanna piss off an examiner, just hand up a budget with a **** loada boxes covered in Tipp Exx & runny ink! Make sure to be snappy!

When you've gone over everything in pen, just get your rubber and rub out everything. You'll be left with just pen.
