I imagine the majority of them don't want to get caught up in what they may view as faux sympathy.

Whilst this is of course tragic to the majority of people it's just another death, one of many daily.

Yes, a real shocker for all the families involved. RIP. Dont know them but a friend in Melbourne knew them.

Could be true but when you consider the amount of posts on "Whelan/Darragh O'Suillivan retires" its a bit of a mad statement, do people then consider the death of a GAA player lower down the scale than a retirement.

Maybe people relate more with something which will have an effect on them or their team. Also they've watched these players for the last 10+ years so therefore are more opinionated.

I don't think it's a case of being able to (or even fair to) make a direct comparison between the two in terms of sentiment.

Hurled with this guy and i can tell ya there wasnt a nicer guy you could meet- a real gent and a killer hurler to boot; his talent was wasted in our county but yet he was a passionate mayo man and dedicated clubman. there was about forty of his teamates in hurling and football in a clubhouse in Tooreen on saturday trying to come to terms with his loss.

Known Adrian all my life! It was an honour to know the lad and to play football and hurling with him! One a the finest hurlers ever to come out of mayo! R.I.P Twink!
