    Hello,

I'm looking for some help. I'm thinking of moving to Mullingar but work in Blanchardstown. Not too happy with paying a toll twice a day so was wondering what alternative routes there were and approx what times these take? The train would be out cos the times dont match up with my work hours. Any advice?
    Thanks

you could take the old road (the R148) between Kinnegad J12 and Kilcock J8, as the McNeads Bridge-Kinnegad and Kilcock-Leixlip stretches of the M4 are free, but if you break the speed limits while toll dodging you need to watch for the hair-dryer men.

Your only sensible alternative is to avoid the M4 toll booth from Enfield to Kilcock and from Lucan via Clonsilla to Blanchardstown. What hours are you working to and what part of Blanch; it may make a difference here.

I work in blanch hospital. my hours differ during the week sometimes 8-5 sometimes 10-7. i was hoping to just get the train to Castleknock but it wouldn't work for the 10-7 shift, was hoping moving to mullingar would be a cheaper option than Dublin but not sure if the commute/travel expense would be worth it

Depends on how you value your time. You'd have to factor in the cost of the extra wear and tear on your car, extra cost of petrol+tolls, and the time you sit in your car when you could be doing something else. Plus add in that the higher mileage you do, the greater the chance of being in an accident (even though motorways are usually statistically safer)

There's a pretty big hospital in Mullingar too. Would it be possible to get a transfer?

8 till 5 is no hassle; the 7PM's are a sticker for you. What's worse is that Maynooth car park is pretty much a no go to find a space in late on so it's not an alternative option. If it's just certain shifts then perhaps suck up one of the toll booths and get in and out that bit quicker. Otherwise then just stick in Dublin and pay the extra few € in rent for a handier commute.

Yeah thats what I thought train just too much hassle, we're looking for the goodlife in the country, nice house a bit of land etc. it takes an about an hour to drive but I was wondering how much longer traffic is going to add on to that to be in at 8 at 10

I go the opposite way quite regularly and get from Mulhuddart to the Mullingar in about 70 minutes by going:

    Clonee - Dunboyne - Summerhill - Ballivor - Killucan - Mullingar
