I have the 405 set up to run but i have hit a snag.
I have downloaded the software, tested the plug in,downloaded the new usb's and registered the 405 with garmin but my garmin connect page is telling me that no devices are found !

It's so long since I installed it, I can't remember too well. But, there are a couple of different pieces of software needed.

You need the "ANT Agent" which does the actual communication with watch via the USB stick. Then you need another piece of software that plugs into your web browser. I think (but am not certain), this is called the Garmin Communicator. I'd suggest if you have already installed these, try re-installing them. There might be specific Garmin USB drivers as well to be installed.

...and you also need to "pair" the watch with the computer which is under Menu->Settings->ANT+->Computer->Pairing on the watch.

Have you done a run? There won't be anything on your Garmin Connect page until you upload a run to it. Do you have Garmin training Centre installed (from your old Forerunner FR50)? Did the workout appear there?

You can have the ANt agent upload to both Training centre and Garmin Connect simultaneously. Right click the ANT Agent in the task-bar, and click on Device Settings. Make sure the two options (Garmin Connect and Training Centre are enabled). I usually upload to both so I have a backup copy and can transfer the workouts to another application if I need to, without having to download the runs individually from GC.

    What's the exact error message?

    I have the pairing "on"

On my old laptop i had a little icon that was down by the time in the bottom right of the screen...there is no icon down there at present even though i have all the software installed.

When i try to send info of run through garmin connect it says " no device detected "

You need to run the ANT agent software. There should be a Mickey-mouse looking icon near the clock. Try the Garmin menu group from the Start Menu. Should be called ANT Agent or something like that.

I have two runs completed on it and i am already on garmin connect from the garmin 50,not getting anything in the taskbar to click on.

    Error message :

    Garmin Communicator Plugin Test Page

accepted_48.jpg Communicator Plugin is properly installed and up to date, version 2.9.2.0.

Garmin GPS device is NOT detected. To complete test, connect device and refresh page.</SPAN> If a Garmin device is connected and you're still having problems, download and install the latest Garmin USB drivers.

If you're still having problems and need additional support, see Communicator FAQs.

Nothing resembling Garmin in the start menu

Try downloading Ant Agent from here: http://www8.garmin.com/fitness/ant_product_page.jsp
Sounds like you don't have it. Then ensure you have your watch set to pairing on, then right click on Mickey Mouse and pair with new devices.
