Should I still record mileage?

Hello, I'm a sole trader and I bought a commercial jeep a couple of months back. Before getting the jeep I was using a private car and recording the mileage clocked up for business. Now that I have a commercial vehicle, is there any reason to continue recording the mileage? Thanks in advance. David

I'd like to know all about this as well, I bought a commercial van and my accountant has told me I should go back to a car as I can't claim milage on the van only expenses. I'd be happy to keep the car van but he says it has to go?

The jeep is a commercial vehicle so all the expenses incurred are for the purpose of trade and thus are all allowable for tax purposes. You should not have to keep details of "mileage clocked up" but all the receipts and bills incurred.

I am confused by your post however because you cannot claim civil service mileage rates if you are a sole trader, only if you are a company. You can only claim your actual expenses receipts incurred if you are a sole trader ie you cant work it out on mileage and multiply it out by a rate.

    Kind Regards
