First of all you need to create a gold card

    http://www.softsailor.com/how-to/20475-how-to-create-a-goldcard-for-android-and-other-smartphones.html

It may look complex but it really is quite straightforward.

Then you need to boot into fastboot on your phone (Turning on the phone with the back button held down). Then you plug your phone into the computer with the goldcard inserted and you just run the RUU (The stock update file)

If you need any more elaboration or help, feel free to ask :)

    Can someone help!!

Trying to debrand my Desire but I cannot get the ABD driver to install for me on Windows XP. I tried what the above said but not working :(

Got the driver problem sorted but now trying to create gold card but stuck again!
    6. Connect the phone to the PC via an USB Cable. On your PC, open the Command Prompt (Start-> Run-> cmd.exe). Type in the black window the following:
    adb shell
    cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid

I keep getting adb is not recognized as a command

Now I'm really stuck. Got to the very last stage and have taken out the the SD card and put back into the PC to test but PC keeps asking do I want to reformat it!

Seems to be tried and test on a Kingston 2GB card so will just get one.

It's as good as rooting from a warranty standpoint.

Debranding loses you your software warranty.

thats not a huge issue, that can be fixed apparently

ok, would Debranding remove the sim lock? e.g buying a phone from 02, debrand it and then use a meteor sim?

No it won't. There is no way to unlock the phone for free using only software. You need to purchase an unlocking code.

Most of the posts I have read indicate that the O2 Desires are not sim-locked. The Desire I bought two weeks ago on O2 prepay was not sim-locked, and worked with a meteor sim out of the box. It is O2 branded.

i'm talking to a guy i know who works in 02 so i'll see how it pans out, tbh i'm a poor student, i can barely afford a desire let alone a desire that wont work for me and i'd hate to be the one person who's desire doesnt work for him

I have a Desire on O2 and which to de brand it. It has a SLCD screen and is running 0.83. Heard that it could be harder to do this. Would also love to root it but not sure of the steps with having the above specs on the phone.

Any help with be much appreciated.

I bought a Desire from O2 last week and it was sim-locked. I used www.htccode.com to get it unlocked. Worked out around €28 to get it done as I had to use their alternative service due to it being the new non-AMOLED screen model.

Had a o2 desire which was branded but was sim free. Just debranded it yesterday without hitch (updated to 2.2) , anyone wants help it's still fresh in my mind (pm me)
It was running 0.80 so only know how to do it for that one not 0.83.

Hey pyro, can you talk us through it here please? Thanks

Cheers for the replies. Just came across this and it seems to be a good step by step guide. Might bite the bullet and give it a go tomorrow evening. I'm just after buying a 16gb sd card for the phone so would I be best to copy everything over from my current card before I start this process?

    Android Forums

Just wondering also would I need to have my phone unlocked before trying to root it and debrand it above or with it not make any difference?

**** I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF THE BELOW PROCESS DOES NOT WORK FOR YOU & IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE - DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK ****

Sure thing Random, just to let everyone know what I had to start with:

HTC Desire 0.80 version branded to o2 IRL with a amoled screen (important as the newer screens won't work with this version i think) And I'm using it on Meteor Nework

    Windows 7 64bit

4 GB Scan disk card and SD reader

Ok I used this guide here http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/67098-how-flash-debrand-your-desire.html Have a read for it yourself as I did and make sure to follow it.

I'll give you a step by step guide of what I did because I did do some things different:

    1. You need to setup ADB on your PC and download the Android SDK, guide here: http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/ Ok just a note on this make sure you extract it to the C: drive and because I had Windows 7 I had to install from here http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=312&cat=3&dl_id=982 you need your S/N number from the back of your phone to download it.

    2. Create a GoldCard here (remember to open the SD Card as a PHYSICAL DISK) : http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/ Only thing I did different was to use http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/ this to format the card. On the card formater select the full and erase format, takes a while.

    3. Download the Generic Software here :
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=684259
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe Use "shipped" as the username and password. This is a different to the one they suggest but the one they said to download didn't work and gave an error.

As soon as a started the phone it asked to install the new update 2.2 :)
It's great to be away from o2 and not see those bubbles

Some other reading for you as well, some people had problems with it locking the phone (didn't happen to me because it was sim free i'm guessing ) But someone else has a workaround for that too : http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/140486-how-i-beat-network-sim-lock-my-phone-free.html

Also found this it might help people with 0.83 version with any screen

Any broken links let me know

This one will be a bit simpler than pyro's above but i'll echo his warning from the top of the post.

Check my post on this page - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055972650&page=2

All you need to do is create the goldcard (actually I question whether this is needed for this method) and then start your phone with the zip file in your SD card

Also, I don't know if this works on the new desires with the slcd screens
