    Hello everybody.

Having a little bit of trouble with Kinsale Road and Sarsfield Road Roundabouts.

Is there anyone here who can explain them to me, or point me towards a good map?

I'll ask my ADI (I see her twice a week), but anything that will help clarify things is much appreciated!

    Thank you.

    It is well marked..

If you're having a problem, tell us where u are joining it, and which exit you want to take

I find it hard in traffic, when the front of the lane is covered. Also, the small dotted lines crossing the larger dashes confuse me on Kinsale Road.

Let's say I'm approaching Sarsfield Road Roundabout coming from Kinsale Road Roundabout and want to get to the test centre. Which lane should I be in, and where do I move to in between, and where do I leave?

coming from the kinsale r.about ,
Stay in left lane, the test centre is the first exit off the sarsfield r.about.

    Hi,

Not sure if you are having problems on the roundabout itself or between the Kinsale Road Roundabout and the Sarsfield Road Roundabout. Here is a pic of the Kinsale Road one which pretty much shows the road markings :

    KinsaleRoad.jpg

As you exit the roundabout towards the Sarsfield Road Roundabout you will be heading west on one of the 2 lanes marked N25 (bottom left hand side of the pic above).

If you are in the left most lane as you exit the roundabout then you will need to make 2 lane changes to the right as you merge with the main flow of traffic on the N25 - you can see this road going over the roundabout and your target lane is the left-most lane of the main dual-carriageway. If you exit the roundabout into the right-hand lane then you need to make just 1 lane change right as you merge onto the dual carriageway.

As you travel up the slip-road from the Kinsale Road Roundabout there are a number of 'hatch-markings' on the road - you must wait until after these before merging on to the dual-carriageway itself. Use the slip road to build up speed so by the time you are merging you should be close to the speed of the main traffic flow (generally around 80-90km/hr along here).

This pic shows the HatchMarkings :

Hope this helps if not feel free to ask again :)

    Thanks, that helps a lot.

I'm good on regular roundabouts, just these ones worry me a bit.

If I were to take the middle lane on the Sarsfield Road Roundabout, where would I be heading for? I think I'm okay with Kinsale Road Roundabout now.

Any info on Sarsfield Road would be really really lovely!

Well I guess it depends which direction you are coming from! If you approach from the Kinsale Road side in the middle lane then you should exit into the right hand lane towards Bishopstown.

The only really difficult part about the Sarsfield Rd Roundabout is the approach from Wilton (down by Tesco) and heading back towards the test center so you will be taking the 2nd exit off the roundabout. This approach has recently been re-marked with new road markings which actually make it easier (once you know what they are :)). As you are coming down beyond Tesco and the entrance to the ESB on your right you should be in the right hand lane. This will then lead you to the middle lane on the entrance to the roundabout. Once you are on the roundabout itself follow that lane, it will be as if you are exiting into the right hand lane of the dual-carriageway but in fact you will be continuing around the roundabout. It feels odd due to the layout of the roundabout and almost as if you should be signally right but you should not have any signal until you pass the first exit. At this point you should be in the left most lane (outside of the roundabout, with the dual-carriageway median now on your left hand side). Once you've passed the first exit, signal left and continue in the left-most lane and exit onto Sarsfield Road.

That sorts out a lot. Thank you.

On the bright side, if I made a mistake a few months ago it was because of car control. If I make one now, it's because I don't know.

    Hi everybody,

I have doubts about Sarsfield roundabout,
I am coming from N28 from Blackrock side, and need to exit towards Wilton
    roundabout....
So today I made a mistake unfortunately, I enterd from middle lane and went toward 2nd exit, and ended up cutting of path of the driver behind me...
My question is, would be better to enter from right most lane and stay in that one also for 2nd exit or should I change lanes after the first exit?
Not sure.... Please can someone clarify this for me..

    Thanks!!! :)

If you want to go to Wilton then that is the 3rd exit based on where you are entering the roundabout (1st exit would bring you up Sarsfield Rd towards the test center, 2nd exit continues on the dual carriageway and 3rd exit goes towards Wilton Roundabout).

As you enter the roundabout you need to be in the right hand lane if you want to go to Wilton. The left most lane either takes the first exit onto Sarsfield Road or 2nd exit into the left lane on the dual carriageway towards Bishopstown. The middle lane only goes to the 2nd exit onto the dual-carriageway towards Bishopstown.

You should never be in the right-most lane coming into this roundabout if you want to take the 2nd exit.

    Okey,
so I am taking 3rd exit towards Wilton Roundabout,
entering from N28 Blackrock, Mahon side right most lane..
my question is should I change lanes when I pass 2nd exit?
and then take the 3rd exit?

Many thanks DriveSkill on your answer :)
I just want to avoid unnecessary situations and do it right :)

    Hi,

After you pass the 2nd exit you will need to change lanes, this is one of the areas where this roundabout is badly designed. As you pass the 2nd exit your lane (the right most one) basically feeds into 3 lanes. If you want to head to Wilton then you need to either be in the left or the middle lane here as the right lane at that point continues around the roundabout.

Easiest option if the traffic is busy is to use the middle lane, it does mean that when you exit the roundabout you will be in the right hand lane as you head towards the Wilton Roundabout and so you may need to do a lane change as you drive along that straight road if you want to turn left etc. If you can get into the left most lane after passing the 2nd exit then you will leave the roundabout on the left lane going up towards Wilton.
