    Hi,
I have a caddy van, well had a 05 caddy van. She's a complete write off. Rolled over and landed on the roof another car then proceded to send it 20 meters down the road impacting on the front of the vechicle whilst upside down. Engine destoryed and no pannel dent free.
    Ideas?

If the engine is destroyed also, I'd doubt there's anything worthwhile taking out of it.

    Well the radio is good...
Apart from that there bits and pieces here and there!
    Just looking for an opionion.
I'm not giving it away to someone for free, nor am I getting it's weight in scrap!

Worth more than that at least...

well, you pretty much are going to have to.

or break it down to tiny little bits, and sell off stuff like suspension components etc. but you wont make anything really

Take your insurance payout and let them have the hassle of disposing of it.

    Dust off & move on.

But it's not worth anything, I know you don't want to hear that but think about it logically, who wants a van with not very many useable parts?

Would you buy it off someone if they were selling it?

Ha, sounds like a done deal there:D, (runs off and spend 2 days stripping little parts off a write off to make 50 quid:mad:)

Best result would be weight in scrap and you could keep the radio.

In late 2008 we had a 6 month old Golf 1.9Tdi that had been rolled so had roof and chassis damage, but the engine was still running fine. Roughly 12,000km on the engine.

As there was no way the car could be repaired we only got 1,500 salvage for it, even though the engine was perfect and the interior could have been removed and sold too.

Based on that, the caddy is worthless.

If the tyres and still good on her and the radio comes with I'll give €75....

I've been meaning to have a bonfire and this way it'll save cutting down a tree!

The radio would have to be recoded so it is virtually worthless. It is also the old model radio to make matters worse.

The radio came out of a 2009 Caddy van, another one we have! plus we have the codes so should simple to place in a new vechicle.
So i take it that it's the new model!!

    ahh
I'm thinking i'm going to break her myself...
She had as of today 442,000km on the clock....

I'd say the salvage is worth around 100 euro to a scrap yard. Thats it.

442,000kms, are you an astronaut? You cannot legally break a car yourself, by the sounds of it there isnt much to break. Throw a pic up.

Look you've got your answers and you've had offers..

so, €50, take it or leave it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 701 ✭✭✭Theanswers

    Well...
It cant go anywhere until the insurance is finsihed, and to be honest I know it's worth more than 50.

    There's the fake.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

Scrap steel is currently being bought at €120-€150 per ton by the scrap dealers so unless theres any parts that are still useable and saleable your looking at best at around €135 minus the cost for them to strip away and dump all the non steel and minus whatever that non steel takes from the weight of the van.

if it's worth more than 50 then it's VERY little more.

    you're dreaming to be honest.

Jebus, it's ruined. OP, unless you're willing to strip it yourself it's worth nothing but scrap. Every impact during that roll will have destroyed almost everything in the vehicle. The panels are wrecked, the structure is badly compromised and the engine is ruined. Same goes for suspension parts, driveshafts, gearbox, rad, exhaust. There is literally nothing salvageable on the van. You might be able to sell the cat.

Save yourself the hassle and listen to what we're saying.

Look with the mileage you were quoting i honestly thought it was a windup. You asked for our opinion on how much it was worth and we gave it which is its worth whatever it weighs in a scrapyard. If you dont like that then you should let it go through insurance
