Insurance Predicament & Re-registering in UK

I'm moving to the UK about a week before my insurance is up. Now I wont be bringing my car over for about 3 months so i've got a couple of questions before I go ringing on monday.

    1. Is it possible to buy my insurance for the year with AXA (my current provider) over here and they transfer my policy to AXA UK for no extra charge?

    2. If I do buy here obviously (and if it isnt transferable) it will literally only be useful for one trip. i.e. Ireland-UK so am I going to be losing out on some portion fo my premium?

    3. Is it a better option to buy insurance for my irish registered car over there before I bring it over or am I going to have to UK register it before I can by insurance over there?

    4. What's the deal with registering a car over there? Can i get away with not putting it on UK plates? But still have it insured with a UK company? Are they as anal over there about Paddy regs as the law is over here with UK/NIR regs?

    5. Lastly! Will the 18 months left on my NCT satisfy the MOT over there? And what's the deal with the remaining 6 months left on my Irish car tax if I do have to re-register, rebate?

Sorry for all the Q's! Thanks for bearing with me! And lastly, no I cant afford to simply sell my irish one and buy UK, the Polo is staying for another while yet!

    1: Extremely unlikely, different divisions
2: You should be able to get a pro-rata refund of your policy
3: You'll need UK plates to get a quote off most UK insurance companies
4: Due to no VRT, they don't really care as much. If your insurance covers you for indefinite periods in the UK (Quinn do but most others don't, or drop to TP only, or even expire after 90 days out of Ireland), and you keep the car taxed here also they're unlikely to care
5: No on the MOT front. Think the tax is refundable if the car is exported.
