I am doing some casual work in a factory at the moment and my pay is just ridiculous I've been paying a lot of tax on a very low amount of money. The thing is another person doing the same hours and who started at the same time was the same, only now theirs is sorted and they aren't paying any tax.
Theirs was sorted maybe 2 weeks ago, they got some money back and so there is no longer the E tax code on thier payslip, but its not on my payslip either anymore and yet last week I got only 92e into my account and 60e was taken out in tax????? it now says tax code W on my payslip? I'm raging will I get this back, what is tax code W and why am I paying tax on such pathetic pay? Please help?

You need to get a statement of tax credits sent to your employer.

If your employer has not received this they have to deduct emergency tax. Emergency tax is at the lower rate for the first few weeks, then shoots up to around half your wages . It is YOUR obligation to sort this out, not your employers.

    see http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/employment/starting-work-and-changing-job/starting-work/tax_and_starting_work

When you get everything sorted out your employer will pay you back most of what they deducted in emergency tax.

Have you provided your new employer with a P45? If not then you must be on emergency tax still. You can call the Revenue PAYE helpline and register your details with your new employer, you will need their tax number and your PPS number to do this.

    Good luck

So far I've been leaving it up to my employer who has told me that they were calling the tax office for me.... big mistake I know, its just that this has happened before and its been sorted this way so.. but today I've just started to have a panic attack about it just when the tax office is closed:rolleyes: Am gonna ring them monday and call into them tuesday if needs be! My wages are way too low to be paying this much tax its totally absurd! I'd be better off staying at home:rolleyes::rolleyes: but thats for another thread..
