Need a Golf MKV Gearbox

Dunno if this is right section.

But I need a MK5 gearbox, 1.6FSI, but here's the tricky bit, it's 6 speed (apparantly UK only).

I've been ringing NI breakers like theres no tomorrow & even they don't have 1.

Managed to get a 6 speed off a Passat, but aside from the mounts being different, it may also require a new starter amongst other things & in the end may not even work right.

    Any ideas ?

    Wow...

what miles are on it ? What happened?

    Only 50k miles on it.

My own fault really, it got increasingly harder to get into 3rd, and eventually 5th started acting up, funny enough they would only engage if the clutch was half pressed. Anyway, a tiny oil leak then began about a month ago, it was literally 1 small drop on the driveway per night so again I just said meh. Even the mechanic said sure all cars have small leaks every now & then. So, the day before he was due to look at it, during a 5 minute spin to the shops it started rattling on the return trip, I got about another 100 yds & it just went clink, bang & a large lump of gearbox rattled down the road behind me.

So, for not changing a tiny seal in time, I now need a new gearbox, which isn't even so bad only I can't find a 6 speed. (I bought it in NI, and that owner brought it in from England)

Is the 6-speed box fitted to that 1.6 FSI different to the 6-speed that is found in 2.0 TFSI VAG cars (GTI, VRS, TT etc)?

I wouldn't have a clue tbh, I just drive them lol.

    Anyway, Traynors to the rescue!

Delivering it to within a mile of my house tomorrow morning, couldn't beat it with a schtick! :D

Something similar happened to my 6-speed passat. (main bearing failure).
My advice to you OP is make sure you have the right gearbox. I used "the parts gateway.co.uk" for my gearbox search and they in turn contacted a garage called "Motors in motion" who supplied me with a gearbox. I paid nearly €1000 and got it shipped over to Ireland, picked it up from the airport myself, dropped it at my mechanic's garage and he removed the old box and fitted this secondhand box. This process took him all day. (He had to drop the sub-frame to remove the box).
All was going well until the road test. The Speedo wouldn't work and the fuel gauge also wouldn't work. The gearbox had a slight modification, or it was for a newer car. Even though I supplied the garage with the chassis number and engine code, the variant of the box was wrong. The Speedo was connected to an electrical connector on the new box where my old one was taking the readings from the drive collars.
Anyway, point is, make sure you have the right one, and also make sure you are entitled to a full refund "if" there is a problem.
I was able to get a refund but not for the shipping. Also, I was down a days labor for my mechanic. Nightmare material - aviod if at all possible.

I ended up getting one from a breaker in NI. I explained the difference between the gearboxes to him and fortunately for me, the guy was able to check the box before he shipped it. That one worked out OK and is still in my car.
All this carry on about making it fit etc. is a disaster. Get the right part or you will be forever regretting it.
Hope it works out for you !!

    Nice one dude.

Yeah I've had 2 different boxes here now including a Passat, but putting that 1 in would have meant changing the starter & all that lark.

Traynors are delivering the exact box tomorrow morning. (Well lets hope it's exact, I have faith in them)
