Anyone else get a PSN code for "Rare Gold PS3"?

Just got an email from sony thanking me for being a loyal customer and what not and they gave me a code for gold ps3 for use in Home. Did anyone else get this? I'm assuming an email's being sent out to nearly everyone?

I got it too, and I don't even have HOME downloaded anymore...deleted it after trying it for a few minutes.

This is pure marketing that didn't cost Sony anything [other than an hour or two of a designers time]. Home people will lap this up.

Its nice to see Sony putting time into something so useful and construtive as a ''Rare Gold PS3'' rather then something of much lesser importance like better firmwire updates, better customer service and an official online trophy leaderboard all of which wouldn't be as appreciated or used as much as a ''Rare Gold PS3''.

I got this too. it said on the e-mail it was for being a loyal customer, and i do purchase lots of mini-games etc on PS store so i'm sure thats why i got it.

I havent been on home in a fair while, but i might go back to it for a nose and to redeem my free code (am a glutton for freebies lol). I dont think its anything more than just a little ploy to get "Home" to appear under peoples names on the friends list and hopefully inspire others to join friends online.

How much have you spent on PSN lately? I must have spent a good couple of hundred just on PSN games since I got my PS3.

Yep I've spend a good couple hundred or more myself on the PSN between PS3 games, PSP games and PSone games. I feel like my loyalty has been rewarding seeing as how I seemed to be able to get into almost every PS3 game beta or exclusive demo. :pac:

Lol yea its a bit of a kick in the teeth as a loyalty reward, but then again, i wasnt expecting anything off sony, other than credit card abuse and gluttonous overspending!

im hoping that by redeeming this thingy on home that it will trigger their system to to send me more stuff in the future (i.e. beta codes or something) which would be very nice indeed Its my very first freebie off them btw

I wonder if the beta/demo freebies will be drying up now that 'PSN+' or whatever it's called is coming out, and will be reserved only for subscribers to that service. Sure we'll find out in about 2 weeks at E3. Perhaps all we can hope for now are Home items. :pac:

I don't see beta access as any sort of pull. I have signed up for some beta access programs for games I had an interest in but I don't get wet by playing betas [getting games for free for a limited time]. I just don't see how people get excited about it.

However, it's good marketing for the publishers. Builds up the hype. "Oooooo, who wants to beta test our product for free?" 9 times out of 10, the product went through beta testing already and is rock solid [as a product]. The only real testing they want is server load tests. And this they get for free PLUS the marketing hype that goes along with it.

These days beta testing is just another word for demo. It's a shame.

PSN+ : Access to beta tests? Why should this be a pull? I will probably be subscribing to PSN+ when it comes out, but certainly not for the beta testing opportunities.

tbh i think you could be right there, well i'll be happy with any freebies i get, after all i dont expect anything for free, especially from sony lol. still i'll look forward to seein whats new from E3, will be interesting to see what this new premium service is all about.

regards the beta testing, id just like to try it out as i say i never got anything like that before so it'd just be novelty factor for me thats all. (sorry dunno how to multiquote ranger's post )

For a multi quote reply, click the "multi quote" button and click the multi quote button on as many quotes you require, until selecting your last post to quote, then just select the normal "quote" button.

In example below, Notoriety and aaron are multi quotes, while Minstrel is a normal quote.
