It's not a phone any the vast majority of phones dont take micro sims, so what are people to do when they want to swap back? Not a great long term solution

    Alex ,
Why buy another sim ? That only brings a new account , line rental , data plan etc etc .

Users can easily cut down their current sim and purchase a micro sim holder for a couple of euros , this will then allow them to use the same sim in iPhone and iPad for example.

Touché. I did think of that although I'd never seen such a holder. Guess I just wanted to see if you'd thought of it :P Very logical idea now if I'm honest.

Has anyone got one of the o2 microsims working? I've followed the instructions and on registered on O2 with the one day you get free when you buy the sim, but when I try it on the iPad it says I'm not subscribed to a cellular plan. But I am. The connection indicators in the screen corner also say o2 IRL 3G and shows a full signal bar.

The only thing I think may have gone wrong with the activation was the APN step. It says to go to this area in your settings and change it to Open Internet, but when I went there there's no menus or list options, just a cursor, so I just typed in "open Internet".

Brilliant, that worked! Thanks for the quick reply.

Why couldn't o2 get that right on their leaflet?? It even says "you won't need a username or password"!

    Thanks again.

No problem. It's early days I suppose. It'll probably take them a few weeks to get up to speed.

I cannot understand the logic of paying extra for a 3G device plus an extra micro sim and the extra cost that entails instead of getting something like a MIFI and share the internet with five devices and get 15 GB / month for the same price from O2

Sometimes we have to move around to get the best 3G coverage. Is it really that good idea to being restricted to using the iPad beside the window.

This Micro sim idea is a retrograde step.

Maybe because of the convenience of not carrying around another device. I don't know but I guess that the mifi has a 3-4 hour battery life and not the 10+ hours battery life of a 3G iPad while surfing. Well they are my reasons anyway.

Personally I'd find the mifi a pain,it's another thing to bring with you and make sure its charged upb etc, most people IMO want the microsims for this reason

I got a mifi for my iPad a couple of weeks ago. It's tiny, I just throw it my bag and forget about it.

Plus any time I visit the parents' house I can use it with the laptop or any other device if i want to.

You have to get one in an Irish o2 store. The one you got in Belfast will work in UK / Northern Ireland only.
