Returing lawnmower to Amazon?

I bought a lawnmower from Amazon and it never worked when i got it. Just notcied this on the return page
Securely package the item to avoid damage during return--if possible, please use the original packaging.
Affix the mailing label squarely onto the address side of the parcel, covering up any previous delivery address and barcode without overlapping any adjacent side.
Affix the appropriate postage to your package. Please note that the return postage will be added to your refund if the return is a result of our error. See our Returns Policy for details.
Ship package from your nearest post office or shipping company of your choice. If the value of the items you are returning is more than 50 GBP, it's recommended that you use a trackable return method.

Does this mean they will refund me the return postage fee? As you can guess it's expensive for me to retuen the item.

    Thanks

Yeah, that's how it works. I've returned camera gear to them and they refund the total cost including return postage.

    Thanks for the reply.

What happens if the courier doesn't put the cost of shipping on the item?

    From Amazon website..
please note that we cannot accept returns if you deliver them to us by hand
we will notify you via e-mail when we have processed your return--this may take up to three weeks
for your protection we recommend that you use a recorded-delivery service if the value of the return is more than GBP 50

Amazon are reasonable about returns and refunds, they pride themselves on it and they seem to have realised that a good returns policy is the lifeblood of internet trading, as important as security.

You need to put the mower back in its packaging as best you can and send it off. Keep your own receipt for the cost of the courier, you can always scan it and email it to them if they query it.

    From that link above.
    Defective large items

If the item is defective, please visit our Returns Support Centre. Amazon.co.uk will arrange for our specialist repair service to contact you to discuss the defect and, if necessary, arrange to assess the item in person. They will work with you to resolve any issues that may arise. If it cannot be repaired, we will at our discretion arrange to replace the item.

How to return a large item

Should you wish to return a large item, please visit our Returns Support Centre. We will then contact you via e-mail to confirm the return and arrange for collection.
Definitely contact them first. I am surprised they would leave themselves open e.g. I could use a courier "rubadub's mates courier", who could charge €1,000 to delivery it back.

If you posted via an post (which is least hassle for you) then it would probably cost more than the lawnmower itself!, I expect amazon have contracts with couriers for large items.

The chance are there is something small wrong with the item and it could probably easily be repaired. - It might even be something you're not doing correctly (happened to me a few years ago - I hadn't put 2 stoke oil into the oil tank)

Also, there may be a service centre in ireland for the mower and they may request that you send it there.
