    Hi,
I'm in San Diego at the moment on a j1 with three others. We're staying in hostels for the moment and spending all our time looking for accomodation. While we have enough money to pay three months upfront and there are places available, they won't look at us without a US rental history, US credit history and a US-based guarantor. We've offered bank statements (Irish), rental references from Ireland) and Irish guarantors but they won't accept them.Does anyone have any advice or experience in getting around this? We're starting to get a little worried.
    Any help would be great.

Oh how I wish I knew all this when I first came over.

The best thing to do is, if you have any friends in San Diego already, or know anyone, ask them to be your "old landlord", put down their name and phone number and randomly choose an apartment (make sure the renters don't own it :P). Having a bank account should suffice, or even an Irish credit card.

Otherwise, you can try contacting these guys. They offer short term rentals, I stayed there before. There's a bus up the road that brings you straight to Pacific Beach, about 15 min drive. They might own other places too. Check them out!
