I dunno but it's mad. The steering wheel should be physically connected to the rack...

    That looks creepy.

Presumably, not liking that at all. Like when you disconnect a game controller from a console. With no direct contact to steering rack, presumably you can not "feel" the road through the steering wheel either?

It would be similar to piloting an Airbus,

You want to go one way and it decides to go another.

Isn't drive by wire usually referred to as the way the gas pedal works, not the steering wheel?

Same principal. Fly by wire / Drive by wire. :)

Can one manually over ride this system?

Drive by wire is a term that refers to the method by which control is passed from the user to the device, ie electronically; its not a term specifically used for the accelerator.

EDIT: I looked it up, the drive by wire for the accelerator is electronic throttle control.

    WATCH THE STEERING WHEEL!
I dont get it, spin wheel quickly and computer gets completely confused and then automagically firgures out whats wrong and centers steering wheel again?
Why not spend the auto-centering R&D money on making the flipping computer not forget the relationship between steering wheel position and wheel position in the first place?? :pac:

Not really. In the Airbus you are totally disconnected from the mechanical workings of the control surfaces needed to steer, climb and descend.
But, at least the Airbus system works haha

Lads, this is not normal drive by wire, it's DEFECTIVE drive by wire.

Throttle by wire. Ironically the other (old) way is throttle by cable!

I'm glad to own a car that's all MECHANICALLY put together. None of that 'drive by wire' bollocks.

This actually got me reading up on brake by wire, mad stuff. Even though it was a bit of a flop with Mercedes, it makes you think how "crude" current braking systems are, even though they work very well.
