This may be slightly off-topic, but I purchased something off Amazon recently and the delivery guy arrived about an hour ago, but I didn't hear him knocking because I had the oven on. Went outside but he had just drove off and didn't see me. Rang the depot number straight away and got through to customer services. Unfortunately the woman on the other end was both abrupt and unhelpful  She put me on hold when I got through, and then put me on hold again as she picked up the phone!

I explained the situation and she didn't seem to give a crap. The delivery guy had just drove off when I rang, so he couldn't have gone far considering I live in a pretty busy area with plenty of traffic lights. Instead of even making an attempt to try and contact the driver, she just told me there was nothing that could be done and that he was already on the way back to the depot and that it was my own fault. She told me I have to wait until Monday evening! I wasn't one bit happy with that because as soon as I got off the phone, I checked their website (http://www.dpd.ie) and saw that they deliver on Saturdays!

I don't plan on dealing with DPD again any time soon if that is the kind of service I'm going to receive!

On the flipside, I've found DPD excellent.

If there are times I'm not at home to receive an item, I call them to alter delivery to my workplace and it is never a problem. Sometimes I even collect at their depot on a Saturday (I think Saturday deliveries are only in Dublin or other big cities). Always friendly on the phone, whenever I call.

I suppose it depends on your local depot.

I use DPD on a daily basis and have to say I find there service excellent. Was it close to 5PM when you called the depot? At that time on a Friday its hard to get anything done. I know all I'd be thinking of is getting home for the weekend:D
Saturday deliveries are about 3 times as expensive as a normal delivery and as it was not thier fault the parcel wasn't delivered, they are not obliged to get it to you on the Saturday.
I suggest you call the depot and ask if you can pick it up from there yourself in the morning. I know thats done at my local depot all the time.

Guess this was just a once off for them then? To be fair they delivered the package pretty quickly! And yes it was approximately half past 4 when I rang the depot, but that shouldn't matter when it comes to customer service..

Really annoyed! Was expecting a package that had to be delivered nearly a month ago- got confirmation it was to be delivered today. Have been home all day and when I went to check if I had any letters at around 2pm I see a note to say the courier had been here and I missed him!

I immediately called DPD and the guy on the phone was really rude saying the driver would not just drive and leave a note. No use of me trying to explain that if he had rung the doorbell, if not me, even my neighbours would have come out to collect the package. Repeatedly kept saying 'why would he not ring the doorbell?'. Told me they get paid per delivery so he must have been in a hurry to get along and just assumed there was nobody at this time!

Anyway, really, really rude guy and made me want to slap his face!!! Never want to hear from them again or deal with them again! I have already complained to the renowned company who uses their amazing service and to anyone who plans to use them... well you have been warned! gggggrrrrr!!!!

I think its just like anpost, Fedex and any other major delivery company in that it's down to what your particular delivery driver is like. Personally my local DPD delivery guy is fantastic, never have a problem and would go out of his way to help, likewise my postman is the same so it really seems to be the luck of the draw for whatever driver delivers to a particular area.

I suppose you are right. The postman who delivers in my area is just a sweetheart and he would ring the doorbell and wait for me to open and when he is on holidays, the one who replaces him won't even ring the bell and just leaves notes for me to collect at the depot!

I have dealt with Fedex and Fastway and I can say their service is much better than DPD. What really pissed me off is how extremely rude the guy at the other end of the phone was! If he had at least pretended to understand then I would have been happy to wait until next week no problems. I would not call up their company and said the I had been at home when I wasn't! Well especially in these times of recession, such customer service doesn't help their company...

Personally I find my local DPD guys to be excellent. Have found FastWay great, too. I despise Fed-Ex.

An Post delivery guys seem to be great in my area too. The postman that usually delivers to my house is excellent and would bend over backwards to help you out, I find.

Luck of the draw, I suppose.
