Overseeding and mowing

So 2 weeks ago I seeded the bare patches of my lawn. Unfortunately the existing grass has since shot up to 4 or 5 inches. I worry that it is blocking the new seeds from germinating.
If I mow now will i harm the seed?
I use a reel mower if it makes any difference.

if you just put the seed down 2 weeks ago, they probably are still germinating, so if you look at the ground and see the seeds, and no new blades of grass are showing, I guess it's ok to cut the existing grass, but don't cut it too short and stay off it as much as possible after that.
