As detailed by the blog entry here The Screen cinema are holding a film table quiz on Wednesday June 16th to fundraise for exterior renovations. Quiz is being held in the MacTurcaills pub on Townsend Street. Entry is five euro each, with a max team size of five people.

Anyway, there's enough film fans on here to get together a team or two. If anyone's interested, post here and we'll try and get a few tables together. It's for a good cause, supporting one of Dublin's long running independent cinemas. The prize is fantastic too - a private screening in the cinema!

Cheers to monkeyfudge for the heads up about this, and hope to see some of you there :)

Anyone know if we need to book a table or anything for this? I'll be terribly disappointed if we don't do well. I'm just hoping there's no screenshot round, that's my weakpoint.

You should have seen the picture round I did for a boards.ie pub quiz last year. hurt a lot of heads with that one.

I think we should be okay for tables as long as some of us get in early enough.

Here's the facebook page for the quiz:

30 people down for attending so far.

I have a dream to make a satirical excessively hard table quiz some day where the winner will be whoever loses least. I even have a few trick rounds / subversions of typical table quiz rounds planned out. Hard is what makes it fun, I'm hoping the Screen will have created a pleasantly tricky table quiz. Will be nice to have one that isn't necessarily all general knowledge!

Anyway, I can certainly try to be there relatively early. Have confirmed my attendance on facebook too. By the looks of it, we should have enough boardsies for one table, would be nice to get another one too but we'll see.

I should also have the presenter of the film programme from my radio station there and also my housemate who is also on boards...

Yeah I'm going to try and persuade some friends, but this is serious business so only going to pick those I can trust :P

And lets not forget who we're doing it all for!

Ill drop in tomorrow lunchtime and enquire about booking a table. I work across the road from McTs and to be honest I'd prefer to book one so that we can have one close to the wheelchair toilet!

    EDIT

Just left McTs, I'm told the entire downstairs is reserved for the quiz if needed so theres no need to book. Planning to be there early anyway. I'm off next week so could drop in to watch the football in the afternoon and stay there for the quiz. See you Wednesday, y'all!

I'm applying for Wenesday evening off from work *fingers crossed*
Doubt I'll get any friends to come with me. Getting them to leave their houses on a weeknight is about as likely as something that is very unlikely (havent had my coffee)

I'll definitely be there, providing the weathers any way decent! Count me in on your team Galvesean ;o)

At least I'm not alone in that. I am usually met with polite grumbles of negativity whenever I try to get friends out during the week.

I'm still trying to figure out if I'll bring friends or not. Reserve me a space at the boards table in any case!

That's a better excuse than I'd usually expect :pac: Being a bit tired is probably the most regularly cited.

In fairness, Dublin is a little awkward for some of my friends, but still fun things are fun so it's worth the bus journey.

Must say I had a really good night, even if we didn't win. It was a moral victory though, because we got the Hudsucker Industries question right :P

Also, Schindler's List is totally black & white.

Yeah, sorry about that! Didn't know to look for you until monkeyfudge (who I think also shouted the quote above) joined our team and asked about the guy in the Goonies shirt :P We tried our darndest to get a six person team, but damn rules!

Oh that was me! Pushed people out of the way to get first pick of the prizes. I got Clash of the Titan's coasters and t-shirt... yeah...

And Schindler's List is totally in colour in bits...

The Apartment is the last black and white film to win an Oscar.

There is some colour in Schindler's LIst. The girl's jacket for example.

Sorry I couldn't make it. Stuff happened.

For the record, who was it that texted me (aside from Marwelie)?

had a good time last night even though the questionss were a lot tougher than i expected. anyone know of any more upcoming movie quizzes??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Looked like a big success for them, so hopefully they'll do it again.

Did anyone catch what our final score was in the end?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,544 ✭✭✭marwelie

As far as I can remember we got 54! Thrashed my mates team (that was The Movie Maniacs at the next table!) so thats all that matters ;o)

And we got the animated film for Best Film nominees totally wrong. How the hell did we forget UP!

And the birds name was Kevin!

    D'oh!

    Must try harder ;o)
