    How would they compare?

In terms of using MS Office and other applications (nothing too highly design orientated)

Any recommendations re: separate monitor and keyboard for them?

Anyone aware of any bargains available at mo?

    Thanks

Quite a few differences between them, but main things are
    - laptops generally have better processors. The Atom of a netbook is find for browsing but constraints in the CPU design quickly make themselves known once you start doing any CPU intensive tasks.
    - Laptops screens generally start at 11" and go bigger, while netbooks tend to max out at 11".
    - Netbooks are generally cheaper
    - Atoms don't use Dual Channel memory so many netbooks have a single DIMM which can make upgrading slightly more expensive
    - laptops (modern ones anyway) tend to have dual channel memory which reduces time when CPU is stalling for data
    - netbooks usually have long battery life - some laptops are now getting close (anything based on CULV processors).

    I could go on.
Generally though, if you do anything which is a little bit compute intensive then a laptop is the way to go. This includes an excel file which has a lot of automatic calculations.

I had a netbook but it struggled once I started doing any serious work on it. I bought it thinking I wouldn't, but after a while I had the odd need to do something.
I ended up selling it and buying a CULV (SU4100) based laptop with 8hrs battery life, etc. Much better choice IMHO.

Look around. Seems to always be good deals in Argos, Komplett, Pixmania and many more.

Dont some of the Atom 330 chipsets support dual channel ram? Or is that false advertisement by some companies??

Had forgotten about the 330, it does have dual channel capability, although many manufacturers still crippled it with a single DIMM socket :(
Hard to find netbooks with it in these days.
